We have had such a great (short) week of learning! It has been great to see so many students and families at parent/teacher conferences and attending the book fair. We hope everyone enjoys an extended weekend. We will see everyone on Monday, November 4th!

We are now all in the full swing of fall and successfully made it through the first quarter of school! Our counseling lesson for the month will start first thing the first week of the month. Here is a look at what we are working on this month:

Kindergarten- First MindUp lesson- what is the brain and what does it do?

1st- Academic lesson on taking responsibility, But It’s Not My Fault! read aloud and activity

2nd- Academic lesson on making mistakes and learning from them using, The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes

3rd- first MindUp lesson-review parts of the brain and mindful awareness

4th- problem solving strategies continuation

5th- mindful awareness and coping skills bingo game

We will also be starting groups this month working on various skills such as behavior management, coping skills, social skills, resilience, etc. These groups are created based on data collected from the social emotional screener the kids and/or teachers filled out in the early fall. These groups will last 4-6 weeks, usually meeting once a week.

We continue to have lunches with students as they come up, support our school and students daily with individual check-ins, support our Veterans day program and participate in our CARE team meeting to support staff.

Above is the sign up for parents/guardians to log in to your student's lunch/breakfast account. On this app, you can customize your student's amount of money spent as we are going to start ala cart options soon. You can also put money into your student's account. It will also send you notifications that your student is low on their lunch/breakfast balance.

Visitors to the building: you will always need to bring your ID with you when you come into the building. We will scan your ID into our safety system Platte County uses to ensure the safety and security of our students.

District-wide Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday, October 31 from 7:30am to 3pm for middle and high schools and 8:30am-4pm for elementaries and early childhood. We are offering both in-person and virtual options for conferences. This is a very important time for parents to discuss their student's progress with his/her teachers, as research has shown that parental involvement is one of the most important factors in a student's success in school. NEW THIS YEAR: Each building level is also offering a second fall parent/teacher conference on a separate evening. Please see the schedule below (buildings and teachers will be communicating specifics for reserving time slots).

• Platte County High School: Thursday, October 3, 3:30-7pm
  
• Platte City and Platte Purchase Middle Schools: Wednesday, October 23, 3:30-7pm
• Barry, Compass, Pathfinder, and Siegrist Elementaries, and Great Beginnings: Wednesday, October 30, 4:30-8pm
• All Schools: Thursday, October 31, 7:30am to 3pm (6th-12th grades); 8:30-4pm (PreK-5th Grades)

The PCR-3 Treasure Chest is a stocked resource center providing food, milk, and toiletries for PCR-3 students and families in need. Qualifying families will receive a weekly form via email to sign up or can call 816-858-7001 for assistance.

Families will receive an email with approval to come to the Treasure Chest on Wednesdays from 4-6pm at the new Treasure Chest site (south side of Paxton building).

YMCA Y-Club enrollment is underway for the new school year!

The Before and After School Program available to families in the Platte County R-3 School District is Y Club. With Y Club before and after school, children in kindergarten through 5th grade will enjoy and benefit from homework enrichment, physical activity, and small and large group activities with a focus on building community and youth voice and leadership. Full-time and part-time Y Club is available at Compass, along with Y Club on days when school is out of session for inclement weather, seasonal breaks, and other days off (enrollment permitting). Operating hours are each weekday from 6:30 a.m. until school begins, and again after school until 6:00 p.m.

Spots are limited so please complete the 24-25 Y Club Enrollment Form at KansasCityYMCA.org/Yclub to secure your spot.
