Our BCSC Board of Trustees held its first of two meetings for the month of January this week on Monday, January 10, 2022. The following items were a part of the meeting:

-The first meeting of the calendar year provides an opportunity to reorganize as a Board (and address specific statutory requirements). As a part of its reorganization, officers were elected for the time period of January 2022 - December 2022: President, Dr. Jill Shedd; Vice-President, Nicole Wheeldon; Secretary, Rich Stenner.

-Additionally, the following items were approved: the reorganization of business services; establishment of board meetings, remuneration, and required notices; Board appointments to internal (BCSC) committees; Board appointments to serve as liaisons to both district and community advisory boards and committees, and recommendations for public disclosures of Conflicts of Interest.

-During the COVID-19 Plan of Action update, we gave our typical update on COVID-19 case counts around BCSC, county-wide statistics that can be found on a weekly basis on the COVID-19 Community Task Force website, and state-wide designations that can be found on the CDC’s website and the Indiana Department of Health’s website. Additionally, we addressed our recent changes with isolation/quarantine protocols (reducing the number of days out from 10 to 5).

-There were two (2) comments offered during the Public Comments portion of the meeting. Topics covered included the selection of books for school libraries and COVID-19 vaccinations.

-Items that were recommended and approved included minutes of the Regular School Board Meeting held on December 13, 2021, supplemental contracts, field trips/professional leaves, school fundraisers, claims and payroll, the appointment of Dr. Roy Goode as school physician for consultation purposes, appointment of Chris Monroe as interim school board attorney, and the Information Services Center's roofing replacement contract.

-The Board approved all Human Resources recommendations (retirements, resignations, new hires).

-The first reading of a large number of proposed policies was held. The revision and/or addition of these policies are part of a six-month cycle to ensure policies are up to date. Most of the revisions and/or additions are driven by changes in state and/or federal legislation and outcomes of recent court cases.

-Various Board Commendations and School Board Member reports were provided. Under Cabinet Member Reports, Chad Phillips provided his bi-annual extra-curricular fund report and a statutorily required Board of Finance report.

The next Regular Meeting of the School Board is scheduled for Monday, January 24, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. in the Terrace Room of the Administration Building.

Did you know that over 11% of students at BCSC are emergent multilinguals? As part of Indiana's state requirements, these students will be taking the annual WIDA Access for ELLs during the months of January and February to assess their academic English language proficiency. Please contact your school's EL teacher if you have any questions.

Gather for an evening of exercising your brains and sharing the love for BCSF!

Individuals, and teams up to 6 people, will compete in 4 rounds of trivia via Zoom. Hambone's Trivia will direct and keep the party going for each round, starting promptly at 7pm. This evening will help BCSF raise money needed to continue to their mission, to support BCSC teachers, students, and staff and drive deeper learning for all. Individuals /teams will have an opportunity to raise funds before trivia night. Prizes will be awarded for each round winner, along with the coveted BCSF TRIVIA CHAMPION trophy! This is guaranteed to be a fun, family friendly event.
