Valentine's Day Cards for Aspen Residents
Happy Valentine's Day!
1 John 7-12 - What Love Is
Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
God’s love was revealed to us in this way: God sent his only-begotten Son into the world so that we might have life through him.
This is what love is: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins.
Beloved, since God loved us so much, we should love one another.
No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God abides in us, and his love is made complete in us.
Religion students from Mr. Adam's, Mrs. Ricioppo's, and Ms. Sansano's classes made Valentine's Cards for the residents at Aspen House. With flu season upon us we decided to send some love and joy another way since we cannot visit at this time. MCHS is practicing God's Commandment of "love thy neighbor" and serving those who are more vulnerable during this season of love.

SAFE AND CARING SCHOOLS
GSACRD Voice - Peace and Mental Health
With Family Day just around the corner on Monday, it’s the perfect time to think about the meaningful family rituals that can teach our children responsibility, kindness, and compassion. These small practices not only bring us closer together, but they also instill important values that can last a lifetime.
One of the best ways to nurture kindness and compassion is through random acts of kindness—something you can easily incorporate into your Family Day celebrations.
Here are some ideas for Family Day:
Practice Random Acts of Kindness Together: Whether it’s paying for a stranger’s coffee or leaving a kind note for a neighbor, these small actions show your kids that kindness is contagious and rewarding. By making it a ritual, your children will learn the impact of even the smallest good deed.
Chores as a Shared Responsibility: When everyone pitches in, it teaches kids the value of teamwork and shared responsibility. It also encourages them to care for their home and those they love, strengthening the family bond.
Share Gratitude: Take a moment during Family Day to share something you’re grateful for, and encourage your kids to do the same. It cultivates a positive mindset and reinforces the importance of kindness, both towards others and oneself.
Family Day is the perfect opportunity to start or continue these rituals that will nurture not only your family's connection but also a lifelong commitment to kindness and compassion. For more tips on creating meaningful traditions, check out this Big Life Journal article to read more about ways to foster family rituals that teach. Wishing you all a Family Day filled with love, kindness, and connection!

Winter Pep Rally
MCHS students and staff prepared for this weekend's basketball tournament with yet another amazing pep rally. Students were treated to all kinds of exciting entertainement including amazing performances by the back-to-back Cheerific champion MCHS Cheer team. On top of that, they watched several staff and students including Lana Hazelaar, Abby Parsons, Aden Grams, Josh Moylan, Mr Lessard and Mrs Stafford compete in a 3-point shooting competition. Students also had a chance to be picked to perform in the half-court shot challenge during halftime. Thank you so much to all of those who made this amazing pep rally come to life. A special thank you to Mrs MacIsaac for spearheading the event and to Mr Adams for being the host.
Board-Student Engagement Initiative
TWO STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES NEEDED! The Board of Trustees of Greater St. Albert Catholic schools is seeking two student representatives from each division school that has students in grades 7-12. The goal of this initiative is to enhance student voice and participation in the governance process by creating opportunities for meaningful dialogue between students and trustees. This will involve two after-school meetings with the Board and Superintendent annually (with food and refreshments), with the first meeting taking place in April 2025. As there will only be one meeting this year and the initiative continuing into next year, we are seeking students that will be at the school again in the 2025-26 school year. Please email Corinna Cormier at ccormier@gsacrd.ab.ca by February 27th should your child be interested.

Gospel Reading Luke 6:17-26
6th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Happy, rich, popular. Not bad things in themselves but when those become what we put our hopes in, Jesus warns us they will eventually fall woefully short. And he blesses those people who have found themselves in hard circumstances they hadn't expected. Often referred to as "The Sermon on the Mount", the Gospel writer Luke recalls it as happening on the plains. It's here that Jesus downloads the Beatitudes. Blessings and woes.
