LETTER FROM OUR PRINCIPAL - Brett Wille
Greetings MHS Families!
I hope you all have a restful 3-day weekend and Happy Veteran’s Day to all of you, especially all of our veterans that have sacrificed so much for the rest of us to have the freedoms that we often take for granted. Today at MHS we had a wonderful assembly celebrating our veterans. A special thank you to Mrs. Jaime Johnson, our ASB and Leadership students for putting it together and honoring the heroic leaders in our community that deserve to be recognized, celebrated, and honored. Thank you also to Mrs. Ray, the wind ensemble, and Ms. Gorordo and the choir students for their amazing performances throughout the assembly as well.
One of our core values at MHS is Purpose and I can’t think of a more perfect picture of living a life of Purpose than what our veterans represent. Their purposeful service embodies the idea of living a life of intentionality, of serving others, of finding great meaning in whatever one chooses to do after high school. Today in particular was a great moment for us to be able to help our students make that connection between living a life of purpose and how that can be fulfilled by serving your country. To all of the veterans that are reading this and to all of the family members that are closely connected to the veterans in our community…Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and for making a difference!
Continuing with the idea of purpose, I also want to recognize our Link Crew leaders for their efforts this week to continue to build connections with our 9th grade students. This week our Link Crew students led activities in all of the 9th grade classes with the intent of keeping our 9th graders connected to an upper-class student leader and also helping our 9th graders make deeper connections with each other. There is a direct correlation between 9th grade connection and academic success to on-time graduation, so we continue to look for ways to increase the sense of belonging for our 9th grade students and help them connect and succeed here as they begin this high school journey. Thank you and well done to Mrs. Shanks, Mrs. Waldron, and our Link Crew students for their purposeful focus on our 9th grade students this week.
Once again, enjoy the weekend Bearcat families and Happy Veteran’s Day to all of you.
Mr. Wille
MHS ATHLETICS
Celebrations!
It has been an amazing fall season for the Bearcats. Out of the six programs here at MHS, five of them were represented at the WIAA State Championships to date! Tonight we will be rooting for our Volleyball team as they take on Meadowdale in the District I Semifinals to solidify their placement to State. Come support our bearcats tonight at Marysville Pilchuck HS at 7pm!
Last weekend, our Cross Country competitors battled snow and wind at the WIAA State Cross Country Championships. Alexis Canovali-McKenzie had a strong performance finishing in 28th place. Congratulations to Alexis, Tryggve, Nate and Luke on their state appearance.
Our Football team continues their state run this Saturday, November 12th in Tacoma against Lincoln High School in the Final 16 round. Winner will move on to the quarterfinals. All spectator tickets must be purchased through GoFan - no onsite sales.
The Girls Soccer team has been busy the past two weeks. They fought hard playing 7 games in 2 weeks and earned a berth to the 3A WIAA Girls State Tournament. Their determination and commitment as a team continues to embody our core values here at MHS; we are very proud of each of them.
This weekend, the Girls Swim & Dive are competing at their state tournament. We want to wish Divers, Madelyn Clark and Brynn Magelson and Swimmer Kayme Hartway the best of luck!

HIGHLY CAPABLE PROGRAM REFERRAL WINDOW
Every fall, we start the process to identify new students to receive highly capable services. As defined by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), highly capable students are those who perform or show potential for performing at significantly advanced academic levels when compared with others of their age, experiences, or environments. The mission of the Monroe School District Highly Capable Program is to identify and serve highly capable KÂ12 students by providing a consistent, challenging and supportive educational environment within the resources of the district.
Any student in grade K, 1, 3, 5-11 with parent/guardian permission may be referred by staff, family, or community members. All 2nd and 4th graders are universally screened and therefore do NOT require a referral form. The nomination process for the Highly Capable Program opens on November 7th and closes on December 9th. When a referral is received, the screening process will be triggered to determine a student’s eligibility for highly capable services. The screening dates are TBD.
The Referral Form will be available in Family Access on November 7th. If you prefer paper copies, they can be found on our Highly Capable Program web page or here: English / Spanish.
For additional information, including Characteristics of Highly Capable Learners and Hi-Cap Handbook, please visit our website: www.monroe.wednet.edu/academic-programs/highly-capable
