Families that wish to change their child's learning format may do so at the link below. Please read all information prior to completing the request.*If you do not want to change your current learning option, please do not fill out the form. The request window closes on Monday, September 21 at 3 p.m. No request will be accepted after the window closes.

Please note: At the beginning of the school year, students in grades K-8 were asked to make a 9-week commitment to their chosen learning option. Grades 9-12 were asked to make an 18-week commitment and therefore will receive learning option change request information at a later time. Questions? Every ten years, everyone living in the United States – regardless of immigration status – is counted in the census. The count is used to distribute power at every level of government and distribute more than $675 billion each year to communities across the nation. Participating in the census is a civic duty – much like voting – and is confidential and simple to complete.

The census is important. From school boards to the U.S. House of Representatives, the census is used to distribute power – and resources – to the people. The 2020 Census will determine how much federal funding our community receives for education, healthcare, housing, transportation, emergency services, and more. Every person counted in the census means more money for programs that support MSD Warren Township, our students, and you – their families. The census supports all children, helping them meet challenging state academic standards and have a well-rounded education.

The census is safe. By federal law, individual responses to the census are confidential for 72 years and cannot be shared with anyone, including law enforcement, immigration, tax agencies, or even the President of the United States. Your information is private and cannot be used against you.

The census is easy. Completing the census for your household should only take about ten minutes and is simpler than ever to do. Your household should have received a form by mail earlier this year, but if you’ve misplaced it don’t worry! You can still respond by calling [English version: (844) 330-2020/Spanish version: (844) 468-2020] or online at my2020census.gov.

The census’s deadline is approaching. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the deadline to respond to the 2020 Census was extended earlier this year until September 30, 2020. The date your household will reference when completing your census is April 1, 2020. Make sure you count everyone who was residing in your household on this date, including roommates, extended family, friends, and – of course – children!

All students received a washable face mask at school We have extras should a child need another in the future. Remember, washing masks daily is important!

TIPS TO ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO WEAR A FACE MASK:

1. Talk about it - Empower them by sharing how wearing a face mask gets them involved in the fight against COVID-19. Remember, wearing a face mask helps to slow the spread of the virus!
2. Make sure you are wearing a face mask, too - this will let your child know they are not alone and that you, too, are doing your part to slow the spread of the virus.
3. Put a face mask on their favorite stuffed animal or toy - share photos of other kids wearing a mask. Showing kids like them or having their favorite toy wear a face mask will help to normalize this change.
4. Remind them not to touch their masks - keeping hands away from their face will help prevent the transfer of germs from hard surfaces to their masks.
5. Washing hands is key to slowing the spread - encourage your child to wash their hands before applying and removing their mask.

Warren Parents and Caregivers, here is the link to our Student Success Handbook. This handbook is updated every year to include information about how we keep students and staff safe at school, along with resources for families to access as well as information on district procedures and policies. This handbook is also shared with students.

COMMUNICATIONS: Please reach out to your teacher(s) when you need support. You should also reach out to your homeschool for support.

NWEA: If you have not taken NWEA with your teacher, please ensure that you are reviewing your email and teacher communication daily. It is important that students are given this opportunity to show what they can do.

CONFERENCES: Conferences will take place after Fall Break. Families will meet with their first quarter teacher to celebrate their efforts in the first quarter. October 22nd is a non-school day for all students in Warren Township due to Parent Teacher Conferences. (October 22nd is NOT an Enrichment Day.)

***ALL FAMILIES should have a conference with their first quarter teacher. This means that some students will be in a new learning environment while having conferences with their first quarter teacher.

• Example: Mrs. Thomas was John's virtual teacher in quarter one. John is now an in-person student being taught by Mr. Henry. Mrs. Thomas needs to meet with John's family for a conference.
• Example: Some students have had three teachers (2 virtual teachers and 1in-person) in the first quarter. The teacher that has the student at the end of the first quarter needs to have the conference.

SUPERINTENDENT'S CANVAS MESSAGE: Starting Monday, September 21full time VIRTUAL K-12 students and ALTERNATING DAY 6-12 students will be required to mark their own attendance in Canvas on days they are not in their school building. Staying active and engaged in each Canvas course is critical for learning and success both short term and long term. Schools and teachers will communicate additional information including sharing tutorials that detail the simple process students will take to mark themselves present for each class period. If you have any questions, please reach out.

Using Canvas for attendance:

****Instead of teachers taking attendance, the following will now occur:

1. Students (families) will sign into CANVAS and click their class and then hit the attendance verification.

2. The teacher will log into Synergy and submit the attendance for that day.

3. The following morning, building secretaries will get an email of students who did not indicate their attendance for the previous day.

4. The building secretary will go in and mark the student absent for the previous day.

5. THIS WILL GO LIVE ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2020!

1. In the long run, we are trying to make the attendance process more streamlined. Once this becomes a routine, it should help simplify the attendance process for everyone.

2. Other districts that have made this transition noted and they have indicated that this takes about 10 days and then the process is pretty smooth.

TOWNSHIP SURVEY WINDOW: Over the next two weeks, Warren will have the opportunity to survey 3rd-8th grade students in an effort to receive feedback on their social and academic experience here in Warren Township. The survey window closes on 10.2.2020.

Virtual Learning: What to Expect:

Our breakfast and lunch distribution for all VIRTUAL students will continue to be Tuesday and Friday mornings from 8:00 - 9:30 at Moorhead Community Resource Center. Also, we have added Tuesday evenings from 4:30-6:00 as an additional distribution time. I would also like to remind our 6-12 students that we are offering a take home meal for your VIRTUAL Application Day.

Immunizations

In order for our school to be in compliance with the state laws regarding immunizations, please make sure that your student(s) have their updated information on file with Mrs. Springer. Please make Mrs. Springer aware of any upcoming appointments for vaccines, or if there are any medical or religious objections to your student receiving his or her vaccines

Religious Exemptions for Immunizations--Yearly paperwork needs to be completed for students with a religious exemption for immunizations. Please complete the paperwork and return it to the clinic as soon as possible.

Food Allergies or Sensitivities--If your student has a food allergy/sensitivity, we need an updated note from the doctor stating the allergy every year. Reminder letters about food allergies were sent home with students on Wednesday. If you have not notified the clinic or teacher about a food allergy, please do so immediately. If your child does not eat a particular type of food for religious reasons, please send a parent note that is dated and signed informing us of this. Dietary will then be notified.

Also, PLEASE inform Mrs. Springer of any chronic health conditions that the school should be made aware of, and that your student's medical emergency information is up to date.

The occasion may arise when the school district wants to recognize your child or your child's school. This may include your child's photo, your child's name or your child's work in district publications, newsletters, on school district websites, and in electronic/social media or in staff training videos. We may also want to tell the media (including newspapers, television, and radio) about your child's achievements. We never knowingly release information about a student to anyone who wants to use it for commercial/political purposes. However, we will honor your request to not include your child in these types of recognition if you notify your child's school office in writing that you do not want this type of information released.
