Khloe's Garden Dedicated at Magnolia
The Magnolia family, friends, and loved ones of the Williamson family recently gathered on a bright sunny afternoon for a hope-filled ceremony to celebrate the life of precious Khloe and to dedicate "Khloe's Garden" in her memory. Khloe's Garden is now a special part of the Magnolia campus, bringing happiness and joy to everyone visiting there. In Khloe's Garden there are colorful rocks painted by the kindergarten students thanks to Miss McClurg, art teacher. Also in Khloe's garden are fragrant, vibrant flowers, a sunflower and butterfly bench, and a sign that reads "Khloe's Garden" generously donated by the Waylander family. All kindergarten teachers, Joy Hobbs, and Dr. Faust wore shirts that were purple, Khloe’s favorite color. These shirts were made by Joy Hobbs and were decorated with flowers, butterflies, and even Khloe’s name in her own handwriting. The flowers and butterflies reminded all in attendance of the joy and sunshine Khloe's life, smile, and laughter brought to this world. During the ceremony, Dr. Faust, principal; Dr. Martin, superintendent; and Mrs. Waylander, Khloe's teacher, gave many touching and inspirational words regarding Khloe and her lasting legacy. Dr. Faust presented the Williamson family with a Magnolia Yearbook in which there is a page dedicated to dear Khloe, showcasing pictures of her with Mrs. Waylander and her friends and classmates. Then, after the ceremony, all the kindergarteners gathered in the lawn in front of Khloe's Garden to hear a story beautifully read by Mrs. Waylander and lovingly chosen by Mrs. Williamson: Slumberkins Presents Honey Bear. This book, like the life of Khloe, spoke of hope, love, and grace. In the words of many attending the dedication of Khloe's Garden, "Khloe's beautiful smile and personality will forever be remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing her."
Cahaba Fifth Graders are Ready for HTMS
When you ask many 5th graders going to middle school what they are most worried about regarding the transition, many will say the lockers. So, our 5th graders had the chance to play “Locker’d Up” during specials this week. The students partnered up and had to open as many locks as they could before time was called. Each time they were successful, they earned letters. At the end of the game, the students had to create as many words as they could with the letters they had earned--with one catch. The words had to be about middle school or a character trait we had worked on this year. We all had fun, and locker skills were mastered. They are ready for you, HTMS!
Let's Celebrate!
Magnolia Elementary held its annual End of the Year Awards Assemblies recently. These assemblies were led by Dr. Phyllis Faust, principal. Before each teacher presented awards to her students, the grade level performed a lovely musical piece taught and conducted by music teacher, Mr. Danny Moore. Students' families attended these special assemblies and watched as their students received recognition for their hard work and dedication throughout the school year. Dr. Faust thanked the parents for their unwavering support of their children's educational endeavors which made it a successful year!
Ronald McDonald House Birmingham Donation
Fourth graders at Magnolia, under the direction of Kimberly Hendrick, fourth grade teacher, collected pop-tabs to benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham. According to Mrs. Hendrick, “We were able to collect 127 lbs. of pop-tabs to aid with the costs that assist families staying at Ronald McDonald House while caring for sick children. Did you know that it takes about 1,280 pop-tabs to make equal the weight of 1 pound? With our 127 lbs. of pop-tabs, Magnolia turned in over 162,560 pop-tabs! Thank you for helping support us in our efforts to be able to give back to the community and families in need. Thank you, as well, to Mrs. Stephanie Langford, Ronald McDonald House Charities Director of Marketing and Communications, for speaking to the students.”
Cahaba Elementary School "Dogs" Service Project
Cahaba’s safety patrol, CES Dogs, concluded their year with a meaningful service project at the Trussville Fire and Police Departments. During their visit, the students gained valuable insights into community service and the vital roles of first responders. They expressed their gratitude by presenting the police officers and firefighters with baskets of goodies, ending the year on a positive and appreciative note.
