Welcome to 2023! The staff and I look forward to seeing your children back on campus on Wednesday, January 4th. We have a busy year ahead of us and are excited to get back to work.

Thank you to all of you who were able to attend our first winter concert. We had a huge turn out. So much so that we need to find a larger venue next year and a structured pick-up procedure! It was great to see everyone come together as a community. I personally enjoyed listening to the students' comments to one another as they walked off stage. They were very proud of themselves!

The staff here at Henry Ford continues to engage in ongoing Professional Development. This year, in addition to our partnership with the National Urban Alliance, Henry Ford is working with CircleUp Education. This organization provides staff with professional development on topics related to diversity, equity, inclusion and implicit bias. As such, all of our educators are going through training to reflect on how the students and families we serve are different, and what we can do to make sure we are not making assumptions, especially negative ones, about our students' academic goals, learning abilities, behaviors and more.

We believe all students are capable of being successful and every student's journey to reaching success will look different. It is our goal to understand how to support students in ways that meet their unique starting points and needs. In addition to serving our students, we are also working hard to create a welcoming environment where all students, staff, and families feel respected, valued, and understand that they are an integral part of our community.

MATH FAIR:

Students in classes participating in our Math Fair get to select the class they want to attend the afternoon of Friday, February 3rd. Parents who are cleared to volunteer are welcome to host a class. Below is a list of a few examples of the choices we plan to make available to students.

Math Art (Line Design, Tessellation..), Coding, Board Games (Chess, Dominos...), Pi Activities, Bridge Design, Science Experiments, MakerSpace Activity. Please contact Ms. Knopf if you would like to host a class, or help your child's teacher implement their lesson.

VALENTINES BALL:

We are hosting our first annual Parent/Guardian and Student Dance on Friday, February 10th. Volunteers need to help with decorations and food sales during the dance. Please contact PTA or Ms. Knopf if you are available.

AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT

Keep a look out for our new winter enrichment classes being offered on ClassDojo.Thanks to a generous grant, most of our classes are free to all families. Please contact Ms.Crawford for more information.

NUTRITION

Our district is working hard to create balanced lunches that include whole grains, protein, fruits and vegetables. As such, we ask that you avoid sending sugary treats to school to celebrate your child's birthday and consider healthy options or non-editable items such as pencils, erasers or fidget toys.

KINDER TOURS:

Tours for incoming kinder families are being held every Tuesday and Thursday at 8:30. Tours run through January 10th. Please contact the office to register (650) 482-2404.

Student Safety: Please use the crosswalk and avoid making u-turns in the middle of the street.
