Welcome to the KESD Early Childhood Team Newsletter. We hope you find it both informational and fun.

Please remember this is the time to register your student for next year!
If you have a child who will be 3 or 4 years old before September 1, 2024, your child is eligible for preschool! If you have a child who will be 5 years old before September 1, 2024, your child is eligible for kindergarten!

Community Magic Show
Vermont Magician Alyx Hilshey is a nationally touring comedy magic entertainer and was a 2024 feature magician on the CW Network's most watched and highest rated entertainment program, Penn & Teller.
Alyx the Magician will be the featured performer for Family Fun Friday on June 14 from 4-6 pm at Bandstand Park in Lyndonville! In case of rain, the event is located at the Lyndon Municipal Office Building Gym, 119 Park Ave. (directly across from Bandstand Park)

Drawing a Person
One of the activities that involve multiple skills, that prepare preschoolers for further academic school work is: DRAWING A PERSON
Body parts - observe, label the parts, count fingers/eyes/legs/teeth
Elaborate the drawing - add more parts, compare sizes of people, add vocabulary
Multi media - use different sources like markers, glue different pasta on a model etc.

Book of the Month
Topic: Feelings
Diane Alber is the author we will highlight this month. The SPOT books she created provide us the opportunity to introduce vocabulary of feelings, and strategies to practice them effectively. We know that during early development children explore and experiment with their feelings and how they impact their relationship with others. Consider taking time to speak about emotions, calling them by names. Especially when children are calm, it is helpful to introduce books on the topic on their level. Below are some excellent books appropriate to use with preschool age children. There are many more SPOT books available online.
