West Point El. Parent Update
Week of November 3, 2024
Dear West Point Families,
Happy November! We are excited for the new month. We have 3 1/2 weeks before Thanksgiving Break, and there are lots of things for students to learn and do this month. Please help your students be at school each day!
We would also like to ask for help with the following:
- With the change in weather, please remind your students to dress warmly by wearing winter coats, gloves, long pants, etc.
- Please remind your students about our electronics policy, specifically that cell phones, Gabb watches, and other electronic devices need to stay in backpacks throughout the school day.
- We are starting a new month for earning brag tags. Please help your students be at school each day and help them establish a regular time each day for home reading.
Here are three important things to know for the coming week.
- Daylight Savings ends this Sunday, November 3 at 2:00 a.m. Be sure to turn your clocks back one hour so students don't arrive at school too early on Monday, November 4.
- Reflections Awards Night is this Thursday, November 7 at 6:00 p.m. Parents of all of our participants should have received an invitation in their email.
- A flyer was sent home a couple weeks ago for Championship Martial Arts after school program. Classes will be held November 5, 7, 12, and 14 from 3:30-4:00. There are still spaces available. If you are interested, you can contact the office at 801-402-2750 for more information.
We hope you have a wonderful week. Every day is a great day to be a Wildcat!
Sincerely,
Marjorie Conrad and Christie Bouy
Principal and Administrative Intern, West Point Elementary

Experience the Magic
Magical Manners
We are continuing the same manner for a second week, "Be a Good Friend during Recess." We love this reminder that recess should be fun for everyone. Students will discuss why it is important to keep sports and games school friendly and why it is not good sportsmanship to change rules, exclude others, trash talk, and more. Having fun, building relationships, and getting to move and play are what make recess enjoyable for all!

November's LETTERING Focus - G is for Gratitude
This month we are focusing on Gratitude. Gratitude includes being thankful and showing appreciation by using kind words or doing a kind deed in return. Students will have an opportunity to practice gratitude each day.
From health.harvard.edu, "In positive psychology research, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships."
November Brag Tags
Please encourage your students to earn their November brag tags! Students can earn a brag tag if they have 0-1 absences for the month. They earn their reading brag tag by reading at home at least 18 days during the month.
Excellence Project
We are excited to see the many projects students have chosen to work on this year. If you have not already done so, please have a conversation with your child and help them choose one thing they would like to learn more about or become better at this year. We want every student to feel the sense of accomplishment that comes from setting and working towards a goal for personal improvement!
