From the Principal
Hello Jefferson Families,
A very happy snowy first week of February to everyone! After two-days of delayed starts, we have arrived at a full no school day. I hope everyone is staying safe and warm.
With February arriving, we have now started the second semester of the school year. Last week, teachers prepared first semester progress reports, and those will be coming home next week with your child on Thursday, February 13th. Additionally, you can view your child's report card on Home Access Center.
I encourage you to review the progress report with your child and reflect on their growth and achievement up to this point of the year. As a fellow parent, a few things my wife and I try to do when reflecting with our own children include the following:
1. Begin with the positives- Have your child reflect on why they performed well in a particular subject area.
2. Acknowledge effort- I would encourage you to play close attention to the “21st Century Skills” section to glean information about your child’s effort at school or within various content areas.
3. Talk about opportunities for growth- Have your child reflect on areas they want to get better at and help them set some specific, attainable, time-bound goals. Above everything, my wife and I always aim to communicate we love our children no matter what, and we are their greatest cheerleaders as they continue on their educational journey.
Our 3rd-5th Concert is coming up next week on Thursday the 13th at 6:30pm at the Everett Civic Auditorium! Under the fabulous guidance of Mrs. Rockwell, the students have been busy rehearsing for the performance. This is such a fabulous opportunity for students to experience the excitement and nerves of performing in front of an audience. We hope to see families and friends attending! Not to be left out, our Kindergartent-2nd grade concert will be on Monday March 3rd. See below for more details from Mrs. Rockwell.
In this eventful snow week, we shall see what Thursday brings. Continued to stay tuned to district communications for updates.
Stay safe and warm!
Kind regards,
Steve Hopkins

Attendance Matters!
One daily habit can set your child up for success for years to come: Showing up at school in person as often as possible. When children regularly attend school in person, they’re more likely to develop their whole selves—personally, socially, academically, and emotionally. They’re routinely able to connect with friends and adults, collaborate and problem-solve, make decisions, think critically, be creative, and engage in hands-on learning.
As parents and caregivers, we all want to give our children the best possible chance at a happy, healthy, successful future. Showing up matters.
For student absences, please notify the Jefferson Attendance line as soon as possible each day that the child will be absent and ensure you include the reason in your message. Email: JFEAttendance@everettsd.org Phone: 425-385-7400
This allows us to better support children on their return - and it can save you from getting those morning ParentSquare attendance messages. Forgot to call? That's okay, you can still call and update with the reason later that day or the next day. If there are any barriers to your child attending school, please let us know and we are happy to work with and support you and your child.
Questions about attendance or supports? We are here for you! Email Holly Ryan (front office secretary), Hannah Kegley (counselor), or Ally Nichol (assistant principal), or call the main office: 425-385-7400.

Progress Reports
Semester one progress reports will be sent home on Feb. 19th. You will also be able to view them after this date online in the Home Access Center (HAC). If you are struggling logging into HAC, you can open a Tech Ticket and they will respond by email with your login and password.
Feb. 28th at 6:30 PM - PTA Bingo Night!
Join the Natural Leader's Program!
Natural Leaders is a parent engagement program in which our multicultural families serve as a bridge between families, community, and schools. Natural Leaders assist and provide outreach to families where English is a second language and or cultural differences may inhibit family communication and participation at school.
Who are Natural Leaders?
Natural Leaders are multicultural parents, guardians, and family members that serve as a bridge between students, families, community, and school.
Why are Natural Leaders needed?
The Natural Leaders program provides families facing language and cultural barriers with the tools and support needed to navigate the school system effectively. By fostering a sense of belonging, the program empowers these families to overcome challenges and become active participants in their children's education, ensuring they have the knowledge and confidence to engage within their school communities.

PTA Food Drive Challenge
In honor of the 100th Day of School, the Jefferson PTA is challenging our Chargers to a friendly competition! On 2/10, each classroom will be challenged to collect 100 unexpired, non-perishable items in their assigned category. The challenge will conclude on 2/28, and all items collected will be donated directly to the Jefferson PTA Food Bank to support out Backpack Program! Classes who reach their goal of 100 items will earn a stuffy day and a gold medal to display their achievement. The grade that brings the most items will earn Cartoons in the Cafeteria during lunch!
WIDA ACCESS
Throughout February and March, students in the Multilingual Learner Program in each grade level will be taking the required state English language assessment known as WIDA ACCESS. This test measures English language proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Your student may come home talking about the test they or their classmates are taking. If you have any questions about the WIDA assessment, please feel free to reach out to our Multilingual Learner teach, Mackenzie Perkins at mperkins@everettsd.org.
Important Safety Reminders
Parking Lot Reminders:
Let’s remember as adults to be examples to our students by displaying patience, courtesy and respect.
- Stay in your car if you’re in the parent pick-up line
- Pull up closely to the car in front of you if you’re in the parent pick-up line
- You MUST be in a marked parking stall if you plan to exit your vehicle
- You may not park in the handicapped, police or secretary parking without the legal placard or parking pass
- Do not double park or park at any curb
- Do not park behind any car parked in a stall
- Adults and children both need to use the crosswalks every time
After School Supervision:
We have noticed students unsupervised after school. From our student handbook...
- Students who ride the bus are to go directly to the kindergarten corral and line up by bus route.
- Students who are picked up by car are to go directly to the pick-up area and wait in lines by grade level. Students are to be picked up by 3:40 p.m.
- Students who walk are to go directly home, and are not allowed to play on the playground or fields until they have been home to get permission, and then only after 4:00 p.m.
There is no adult supervision provided after 3:40 p.m., so it is not safe for students to be picked up later. If your child chooses to stay after dismissal and play at the playground, guardians must stay to supervise their child.
News From The Music Room
Join us for the 3-5th grade Concert on February 13th, 6:30 pm at the Everett Civic Auditorium. The students have been working hard and we are excited for you to hear their performance!
