VMMS Community Connection
Week of January 20, 2025 - January 24, 2025
Greetings, Viper Community!
We look forward to another amazing week at VMMS! Semester 1 report cards will be posted after January 22nd. They will be viewable on the AERIES parent portal and be sent to the listed primary home address.
At VMMS, our students are given feedback throughout each unit of study on the skills and competencies of each course. IB grades are considered a measure of growth over time. For semester grading, your Viper will receive feedback in all 4 criteria of the content areas as well as an overall mark. Please click here for the VMMS Report Card Keys, where you will find descriptors for each rubric score. Pay close attention to the feedback provided regarding Work Habits and Citizenship as well as any specific reporting comments provided by the teacher. Please see this slideshow with additional VMMS IB Grading information.
We encourage you and your Viper to reflect on the Semester 1 Report Card with a Growth Mindset. According to IB, "This is the belief that intelligence and abilities are malleable and can be developed with effort. Students that have the growth mindset interpret day-to-day classroom experiences as exciting and indicative of a potential for development." All Viper students, parents, and staff are encouraged to embody a Growth Mindset when reflecting on IB Grades.
We look forward to celebrating Viper student growth and will continue to provide support so all our Vipers can Engage, Achieve, Belong, & Design at VMMS!
Please call the office at (760) 726-5766 or visit the office M-F from 8:00-4:00 if you have any questions or need assistance.
Thank you!

EPIC Viper Reminder: Attendance & Tardies/Lates
Please take a moment and review your Viper's attendance and tardies/lates to class and how it relates to THE VIPER WAY!
Attendance information is available via AERIES Parent Portal. It is essential that our Vipers have positive attendance habits and value reporting to each class period on time. Attendance and tardy/late data has a direct correlation to school engagement and academic achievement. Please see our VMMS Student Handbook for more attendance information.
Our school-wide and VUSD district goal is to have a 96% attendance rate each month. Unfortunately, VMMS was at a 94% attendance rate for the month of November & December. We hope that in subsequent months we will meet the mark! But it will take continuous dedication from all our families and Vipers to prioritize attendance. It takes a village...
If a student is missing 10% or more of school (excused or unexcused) they are considered Chronically Absent. Please see our VUSD English/ Spanish attendance brochures for more information. VMMS will be hosting SART (School Attendance Review Team) meetings to support families with attendance needs.
The Viper Way is to BE ON TIME!
Please also have conversations with your Vipers if they have a pattern of being late to class. If a student is not in the classroom at the bell, the teacher will mark them late. There is an automated call and email that will inform you if your student is marked late.
Please encourage your Viper to report to class on time as they have a four minute passing period and should be using this time to pass to class quickly. Often students escort friends to class or socialize for an extended time and then report to class after the bell has rung. This often causes the student to miss important class directions or disrupt the opening procedures of class. It is vital that Vipers value learning time!
Thank you for your partnership in your Viper's education!
