Administration of Medication at School
School and health staff from St. Mary’s County Public Schools are prohibited from providing or administering medication to any student attending St. Mary’s County Public Schools except in accordance with the Maryland State School Health Services Guidelines and the School Health Services Manual.
St. Mary’s County Public Schools encourages the administration of medication at home. Timing of medication doses should be adjusted to occur either before or after school hours if medically appropriate. When there is medical necessity for a student to receive medication in school, safe and proper administration is essential.
Medication (to include OTC), with the exception of stock naloxone and auto-injector epinephrine, will not be kept or administered by school health services personnel without the receipt of a St. Mary’s County Public School’s Prescriber’s Medication Order Form or a Maryland State School Medication Administration Authorization Form (collectively referred to as Medication Order Form through this regulation). The form must be completed and signed by an authorized prescriber, as well as a parent/legal guardian, without deletion or alteration and must accompany medication to be administered. A stamp with the prescriber's signature is permitted; a printed name stamp alone is not acceptable.
For full policy see Board Docs JHCD-R Administration of Medication to Students, Revised August 6, 2024
From the Music Department
The Music Department will be posting uniform and book orders available through My School Bucks! Please be on the lookout for information on how to order what you need through email from teachers and the app.
From the PE Department
The PE teachers need all students to stay safe. Please ensure that students wear appropriate athletic shoes during instruction. Acceptable shoes may be lace up or Velcro, be well-fitting, and non-marking. Incorrect footwear during physical activity can lead to injuries. Sperrys, Crocs, Hey Dudes, and Snooks are not acceptable footwear for participation in physical education.
Note About Impromptu Visits/Meetings
Ensuring the safety and academic success of your child is our highest priority. With a student body of a thousand and only four administrators, it is essential to manage our time effectively. To address concerns efficiently, please follow the recommended process below:
Classroom Concerns: First, contact your child’s teacher, who is best positioned to address specific classroom issues. Please provide adequate notice when requesting a meeting as we cannot interrupt instruction for such a meeting.
Next Steps: If the issue is not resolved with the teacher, you may then reach out to the school counselor, followed by the assistant principal, and finally the principal if needed.
Your cooperation in following this process is greatly appreciated and will help us serve all students effectively.
Thank you for your understanding
