HISTORIC DAY FOR CROSS COUNTRY
After all the early mornings and countless miles run, both boys and girls teams achieved their goals!
Girls placed 2nd in Division 1, the best finish for girls' cross country in Hamilton history. Alexis Rodriguez led the team finishing 20th, followed senior and captain Carina Trujillo right behind her in 21st and Ava Clawson in 22nd. Carina and Alexis both earned 3rd team all-state honors. Lily Clawson and Heidi Zornik rounded out the top five scorers in 36th and 59th, while Kennedy Muller and Taylie Haskie finished 81st and 133rd.
In the boys' race, EVERY SINGLE RUNNER MEDALED, all seven boys finished top 21!
Junior Zarian Rodriguez led the team with a 1st place finish, followed by Dominick Muller (4th), Ryan Estrada (5th), Chase Markunas (7th), Theo McDaid (9th), Jude Crawford (17th), and Brady Nieto (21st). Not only did Hamilton boys win D1 state, bringing home our first state title for cross country, but they shattered both the team score record and team time record scoring the lowest score in course history with 26 points (previously 31) and a total time of 1:19.12 (previously 1:19.5).
These athletes have worked hard for the past year, but they're not done yet! The school season may be over, but next up is Nike Cross Regionals on Saturday, November 23rd at Toka Sticks Golf Course in Mesa. Most of the runners will be competing for a spot at Nike Nationals in Portland in December.
CONGRATULATIONS to our teams for their awesome performances!
