Mr. Burns's Sunday Message

Full Week of School
Message from Mr. Burns
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I wanted to give a shout out to the Clarksburg HS Football team. On Thursday, we had players from their j.v and varsity football team greet our students in the morning. The students loved giving them high fives and smiles:)
The week of September 23 – 27 is School Safety Week at Wilson Wims Elementary School. The purpose of School Safety Week is to prepare students and staff for different emergency situations by practicing emergency drills. Each day of the week will focus on a different emergency drill that students and staff will practice during the school day. Next week, I will put a detailed schedule in the Sunday Message regarding which day we will focus on each drill. If you are interested in learning more about the different emergency drills, you can learn more through the following resources:
- MCPS Emergency Preparedness Videos
- A video explaining the different emergency drills is available.
- Directions for Receiving MCPS Emergency Information
- You may sign up to receive emergency text alerts from Montgomery County.

Covid 19 Guidance
Last spring, MCPS updated their Covid 19 guidance for schools. The updated guidance states that students and MCPS staff no longer need to follow the minimum 5-day isolation period. Students and/or staff may return to school after being fever free for at least 24 hours and with improving symptoms. As with any illness, we ask that the community exercise precaution and make sure that our children are aware of the importance of handwashing, sneezing into your elbow, blowing their nose when it is running, and not sharing food, drinks or lunch utensils. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Alexander or Ms. Fort in the Health Room.
Volunteer Interest Form
If you have interest in volunteering during our lunch/recess block, please complete this interest form.
MCPS Volunteers
Interested in becoming an MCPS Volunteer? There are a few steps to complete before beginning your service as a volunteer in our schools. This training is a requirement for anyone volunteering in the school, or anyone attending school field trips. Volunteers do not need to take the training every year, the training is good for a period of 3 school years. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Frazier in the Main Office.

Cub Scouts
Clarksburg troop of Cub Scouts (Pack 1307) is hosting a Join the Scouts Night on Thursday 09/19 at 7PM in Little Bennett Elementary School Multi Purpose Room. Cub Scouts, which is part of Boy Scouts of America, is an inclusive program for girls and boys ages K-5.
Pack 1307 has been an active part of our Clarksburg community for several years, offering girls and boys an opportunity to develop leadership skills, build character, and give back to the community. Scouts participate in various community service projects, such as food drives, park clean-ups, and support for local charities, helping to instill a strong sense of civic responsibility and teamwork in our youth. Please join Pack 1307 on 09/19 at 7PM to learn more.
From the PTA
Greetings, Wildcats!
Hopefully you were able to get out and enjoy this weekend’s summer-like weather! It was a warm Saturday for sports, but in my opinion - perfect for some baseball!
We have a few important updates and reminders for this week: After-school programming begins this week and we only have a few spots remaining for Spanish by Unos, Dos, Tres, which will be taking place on Tuesdays. If you would like to claim one of these spots, please register here.
Spirit ‘Night’ is this Tuesday all day long at the Clark’s Lodge (see below).
Finally, this Wednesday marks the beginning of our biggest fundraiser of the year: Fun Run! Starting on Wednesday, all families are asked to visit www.mybooster.com to register your Wildcat(s) for the fun run. You can start them off with a donation and then share, share, and SHARE some more with your family, friends, and neighbors. Students can be supported by a flat donation or a “per lap” donation, but don’t worry - the max they can earn is 35 laps! Classroom donations will be pooled and each Friday (9/27, 10/4, and 10/11) winners will be announced for the highest earning class in each grade level (extra recess) as well as the top-earning grade level (a movie day at school) for that week. Our goal this year is $20,000 to sustain our expenses for the year. Fun Run is the sole reason that the PTA is able to offer free events with no admission fees to our community. We need our Wildcat Community to come together to help us earn another year of important events and opportunities for our children (as well as a school-wide dance party if we meet our goal)! Please keep an eye on your child’s take-home folder this week for more information on Fun Run and don’t forget to register on Wednesday!
Stay connected by following the PTA on our Facebook Page (@wilsonwimspta)and join our brand new WhatsApp Community (https://bit.ly/WWESPTAchat) or by emailing us at any time at pta@wwespta.org.
Have a Wonderful Wildcat Week!

SPIRIT NIGHT @ THE CLARK’S LODGE - TUESDAY, SEPT. 17
Take a day off from cooking and join us on Tuesday (all day long) for our first spirit ‘night’ of the year at The Clark’s Lodge. Mention Wilson Wims and 15% of your order will be donated to our school. Both dine-in and carry-out apply.
MOVIE NIGHT - FRIDAY, SEPT. 27
Grab your lawn chairs & fuzzy blankets and get ready for one of our FAVORITE events - Movie Night on the Lawn! Join your fellow Wildcats and catch Inside Out 2 on the giant, inflatable screen. “Doors” open at 6pm and spirit wear will be available from 6pm to the start of the movie. The concession stand, offering fresh popcorn, pizza, and more will be open from 6pm to the end of the movie. The movie will start at dark. If you are able to support the PTA with a donation to our concession stand, please SIGN UP HERE. We also need volunteers - if you can help out, please SIGN UP HERE. ** Please note the 27th is an early dismissal day.
FIRST PTA MEETING - TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1
Please mark your calendar for our first PTA meeting of the year on October 1 at 6:30pm in the Media Center. A zoom link will be shared in an upcoming Sunday Message for those who cannot attend in person. We do encourage in-person participation as much as possible as this better facilitates our family environment. The PTA hopes to provide free childcare during the meeting through Global and will share more information as we get closer to the meeting.
.
WILDCAT FUN RUN - FRIDAY, OCTOBER 11
On your mark, get set, GO! The Wildcat Fun Run is scheduled for Friday, October 11th during the school day. Visit www.mybooster.com to register your Wildcat(s) (the site opens on Wednesday), start them off with a donation, then share with your family, friends, and neighbors and ask them to support our school by sponsoring your student. Fun Run is a wonderful day of camaraderie, fun, and fitness and the PTA relies on Fun Run to support our operating budget for the year and keep our events free to our Wims community. Please register today and help us meet our $20,000 goal!
Help Needed
The PTA is looking for a co-chair for our second annual Wimsy’s Holiday Shoppe! The Holiday Shoppe invites all children to do their holiday shopping at affordable prices. This is a great opportunity to get involved with the PTA in a larger role without taking it all on yourself! Work alongside our current chair and support this adorable event that will be offered on two different evenings this December! We are also looking for someone to help us with assemblies. Each year, the PTA includes a budget (thanks to Fun Run) for cultural and other assemblies for our students. Work with the PTA and Wims staff to research and coordinate up to 4 assemblies per school year. This is a low lift role that can be done from the comfort of your home, on your own time. Committee Chairs will be fully supported by the PTA Board throughout the duration of these roles. Please contact us at pta@wwespta.org if interested!
EARN FOR THE PTA AT HARRIS TEETER!
Did you know that you can earn for our school simply by shopping at Harris Teeter? HT has donated over $32.8 million to Together in Education schools since 1998. By simply visiting the website & linking your Harris Teeter VIC card, a percentage of your purchase is automatically donated to Wims (TIE #2814)! Our school relies on these funds and we hope to increase participation! Visit the TIE website today to start earning for Wims. Returning Families: Please note VIC cards must be re-linked annually!
