Madison No. 1's Family Weekly News!
Week of 9/16/24:
Mission: "Madison No.1 ensures learning at high levels for all!"
Dear Amazing Madison No. 1 Families,
Last week, I shared the exciting news that Madison No.1 has been recognized by AZPBIS as a Tier 2 implementation school. Naturally, this raises some questions about what this means for students, parents, and staff. AZPBIS works with schools to ensure effective implementation of PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) to improve both academic and behavioral outcomes for students. PBIS is not a curriculum, but an approach to supporting students' needs, fostering a positive, engaging environment.
For students, this means we are building a school atmosphere based on mutual respect and positive reinforcement. We are working to ensure that expectations are clear and positively reinforced, helping students feel engaged and supported. For parents, this approach focuses on recognizing students for meeting expectations and encouraging them to do so consistently.
As staff, our role has been key in driving this forward. Using simple yet effective measures like our CATS tickets and verbal recognition, we are making sure students know when they are meeting expectations. This not only helps with classroom management but also builds stronger connections with students.
As part of our SIAP (School Integrated Action Plan), we are committed to improving our PBIS work throughout the year. We have already started conducting monthly perception surveys with our students, setting baseline goals to track our progress. For August, we set the goal of 50% or higher in recognizing two students publicly in each class period. Our survey results show that 52% of students observed this happening—an excellent start!
Another key area of focus is student engagement and interaction, which was highlighted in last year's parent and student surveys. According to our August survey, 78% of our students reported that teachers are consistently providing engaging practices during their learning time.
We will continue to provide updates and feedback as the year progresses on these SIAP goals. Thank you for your continued commitment to making Madison No.1 a positive and supportive environment for everyone.
Sincerely,
Johnny Brownlie

A Message from our Athletic Director:
Games start this week. Please remind your students that if they want to support our student athletes, they must be accompanied by an adult who is taking them home. The expectation is the same not only here at Madison No. 1 but all Madison schools. Students will be turned away or asked to leave if they are not with a parent.
