Elementary- Principal Krista Yi
Hello families, I have had a wonderful couple of months getting to know the elementary studies. It has been a pleasure. We are wishing our families a happy holiday season and a blessed New Year. While this is a busy time of year, we want to encourage attendance at school. Please keep a look out for fabulous things to come in the New Year.
Secondary - Principal Rick Brownell
We hope all of our families are having a wonderful holiday season! The Secondary Students have been working very hard during our first semester. We even had a chance to celebrate all the hard work from students and staff by having a Student vs Staff dodgeball game, at our first pep rally. Please check in with your student and allow them to let you know all the great things they are doing this year in school.
Also, to ensure a focused learning environment by minimizing distractions caused by cell phone usage during class time, we are enforcing our cell phone policy. If your student has been using their cell phone during class, we will notify you on Fridays, by text message. We really want to stress the importance of academic success for all of our students and limiting the distractions is just one of the ways we are achieving this.
Athletics - Steven Gray
Winter sports are in full swing!
Middle School Boys Basketball will wrap up their season this month with their final game being played 12/12/24 @ Carbonado MS. Coaches Michael Bush and Connor Fobes have been great additions to the Middle School Athletics Program.
Speaking of additions we would also like to welcome our new wrestling coaches. Nick Carlisi, Skylar Carey, and professional Shane WhiteEagle have been working hard to get the numbers of students to participate up and have been doing a great job. It is quite the opportunity our students have to be coached by a team of coaches with the experience this group has. Students are still able to come out and give it a try all they need is an up to date physical.
Boys and Girls High School Basketball is also underway, both teams looking to build on the successes of last season. The home opener for the boys is Tuesday December 10. With the girls home opener slated for Thursday December 19.

Culture Classes:
Assessment: At MTS, the following Diagnostics and Progress Monitoring will be used for the 2024-2025 school year: Exact Path, M-Class Dibels, WA Kids, NNAT3 (Highly Capable), and Smarter Balanced.
Mountain to Sound Program: Mountain to Sound connects K-12 students to Tomanamus and Salish Sea ecosystems to investigate their land and gain a deeper awareness of nature cycles, and human-nature relationships to address complex problems and practice reciprocity in outdoor spaces in community with one another and our more than human relatives. This program applies to a comprehensive three-pillar framework that focuses on invoking culture and tradition, fostering kinship through community engagement and student voices, and academic excellence through rigorous, standards-based learning that elevates culturally focused educational experiences.
Curriculum Development: The Curriculum Development Team is engaged in a multi-year curriculum development plan. In alignment with the John McCoy (lulilaš) Since Time Immemorial: Tribal Sovereignty in Washington State curriculum model, the team is currently developing classroom materials that are academically rigorous, connected to the community in culturally relevant ways, centered in Muckleshoot culture and values, aligned to Washington state standards, and rooted in tribal sovereignty. All of the course plans include outdoor learning opportunities and value collaboration with knowledge keepers, elders, and tribal departments across the community.
