The Critical Four Questions of a Professional Learning Community (PLC).
Last fall, TSD9 embarked on a mission to enhance student achievement by investing in the Professional Learning Community (PLC) process. Central to achieving high levels of student success are four critical questions that guide the Professional Learning Teams during their weekly meetings:
1. What do we want students to know and be able to do?
2. How will we know if they have learned it?
3. How will we respond when some students do not learn?
4. How will we extend learning for students who are already proficient?
To address the first question, teams have been diligently identifying which learning standards will be part of TSD9's guaranteed and viable curriculum. This process requires considerable time, reflection, and effort from the teams, but it is essential to have a clear vision of our goals before we can develop a plan to achieve them. We were able to secure grant funding to support this work and are collaborating with national PLC experts to ensure we are creating an aligned and rigorous educational experience for all Tillamook students. The first session was with K-12 ELA teams who finalized their K-12 ELA standards and have begun the next step of identifying proficiency scales to address question #2.
In every role, our school community plays a vital part in fostering an environment that supports student achievement. From educators to support staff, each of us contributes unique skills and perspectives that collectively empower our students to thrive. Together, we are committed to nurturing their growth and success, ensuring that every student reaches their full potential.
Each week we will showcase how different staff members are supporting the districts commitment to ensuring high levels of learning for ALL students!
Celebrations and Recognitions🎉
There are so many wonderful things happening within our school community. These are just a few.
In every school district, countless good things are happening each day—students achieving new milestones, teachers sparking inspiration, and staff going above and beyond to support our communities. Celebrating these moments and recognizing the dedication of those who work tirelessly behind the scenes is essential to building a positive, supportive environment where everyone feels valued. By highlighting these accomplishments, we not only lift spirits but also foster a culture of appreciation and motivation that helps us all grow together. While we know we can’t capture every achievement, we would love to hear from staff whenever they have a celebration to share. This section of the newsletter is dedicated to shining a light on the incredible efforts happening across our district and the individuals who make it all possible.
Dia de los Muertos
Dia de los Muertos is an annual celebration in Mexico that honors those we've lost. We all know the pain of losing a loved one, and this event provides a meaningful opportunity to strengthen our community bonds and celebrate our shared cultural heritage in unique ways. Often seen as a Celebration of Life, this day is dedicated to remembering those who have passed by creating traditional "ofrendas" adorned with photographs, favorite foods and drinks, marigold flowers, and skeleton figures. It offers a joyful way to embrace our loss by focusing on cherished memories. Together, we can celebrate the values and connections that shape who we are, including the fond remembrances of our loved ones. Thank you to all the staff members who worked to make this event meaningful for all who attended.
