🐢 Learning about Terrapins 🐢
We are getting closer and closer to our release date for our Diamondback Terrapins! When the weather warms up, we will release them back into their natural habitat. In the meantime, we are noticing they are getting so much bigger every day. Their appetites have really grown! Mrs. Simoncini has the biggest turtles again this year, but the others are quickly gaining on her. As the weather gets warmer, please be sure to keep an eye out for the terrapins crossing the road and, if you see one, be sure to move them in the direction they were headed.
Mrs.Costello and Mrs. Randall's STEAM Class
In the month of March we learned so much in STEAM! We had some very exciting labs in 3rd and 4th grade that included stop motion animation and leprechaun traps. In 5th grade we continued with our forensic unit doing chromatography and ridgeology labs. The 6th grade students had a march madness challenge. They made catapults that launch a basketball into a basketball hoop. All grades worked with Dash robots making armor out of legos. They entered the arena and played battlebots!

News From Our STEAM Tank Teams
March 20th three teams presented in virtual STEAM Tank Regionals to a panel of judges. The teams started the process in the fall by designing a prototype, making a script on their presentation, and meeting with mentors. We are excited to hear if the teams make it to the next round, finals!
From Mrs. Dreher's Music Room
Students explored Irish folk music by learning the folk dance "Irish Stew" and composing rhythmic stew ingredients using Boomwhackers and other pitched percussion. 3rd graders are continuing to work hard towards their April 26th recorder concert as they practice notes E, G, and A. Hot Cross Buns is next on the set list with note B coming soon! The recorder concert information letter can be found below.
Please consider coming out to support our FPE chorus as they sing the national anthem at the Lakewood BlueClaws home game on Friday, April 19th @ 6:35 pm! Ticket sales are available here:

Kawka/Skerratt's students completed the novel study of The Great Gilly Hopkins. They celebrated on Book Character Day and completed Book in the Bag reports.
Living Science Museum
We had a record turnout for our Living History Museum on March 27th. Over 80 students participated with more than 45 displays. Hundreds of students viewed the projects during the day and we packed the cafeteria in the evening with the turnout. There were so many great displays it was a hard decision for our judges to make so special awards were handed out. The winners for best overall project for each grade level were: 3rd grade Gianna Soriente and Lucy Myhre, 4th grade Sophia Andrews, 5th grade Bailey Stocchi, 6th grade Jensen Jaime and Bobby Lacey, and mixed grade level Brynn Krier and Jack Krier. Special awards went to: Ty Kunder and Jordyn Loomis for Most Realistic Prop; Brynn Hedpeth and Wyatt Terpak for Outstanding Presentation Board; Jackson Voss for Most Knowledgeable; Henley Hess and Nora Overton for Most Enthusiastic; Anthony Dandrea, Brycen Sysol, and Logan McMillan for Outstanding Prop; and Arya LaPreta for Most Compassionate. Everyone did an incredible job and I want to thank the parents and teachers for supporting the students as they created these independent projects. I also want to thank the PE teachers for allowing us to use the gym for the morning presentations as we outgrew the library.
Frog Pond Press
The 6th Grade ELA STEP Class has published another issue of the Frog Pond Press! They did another wonderful job!
📣 News from our Student Government 📣
This month the student government met to help stuff eggs for the Seacrest Village Rehab Center egg hunt. They very generously brought us bagels and we met on our lunch to stuff lots and lots (and lots) of eggs. We hope everyone has a wonderful time at the egg hunt!
Pancake Breakfast hosted by LEEF
LEEF (The Little Egg Education Foundation) hosted its Pancake Breakfast at the Manahawkin Applebee's with the Easter Bunny on March 16. Members and volunteers served 111 customers! Awesome fundraiser to support the students in our district.
Cave paintings
The grade 6 Sailer/Cummings homeroom recently created their own cave paintings in the style of prehistoric humans. They created paintbrushes to apply the colors red, black, yellow, and white from scallop shell palettes. As students took turns painting, they gathered around the campfire in the dark room 414 cavern and shared stories of their hunting adventures!
Students in Mr. Yglesias and Mr. Sailer's social studies class are shown here creating cave paintings. The students learned about early humans during the Paleo, Meso, and Neolithic Stone Age. After taking a virtual tour of the Lascaux cave paintings, the sixth graders created their own artwork. Some students painted with brushes they made from natural materials!
Learning about Different Countries
Mrs. Lumachi's class did research projects on countries around the world. Students brought in different types of food and shared the flags that represented their country.
Read Across America Week
Students in Miss Lumachi's class read Dr. Seuss books during Read Across America week!
Fourth Grade Field Trip to Jenkinson's
On March 13, Fourth Grade students took a field trip to the Jenkinson's Aquarium in Point Pleasant Beach. Guided through the aquarium by amazing tour guides, students learned about sharks, fish, turtles, penguins, sloths, and so many more animals! They had the opportunity to touch a starfish and a sea urchin. It was a beautiful day outside and students were able to enjoy lunch at the Pavilion. The students and teachers had a wonderful time and learned a lot of new information.
Thank you Mrs. Truex's Class
Thank you to Mrs. Truex's class for doing such a wonderful job on decorating one of our bulletin board!
Mrs. Glock's Class Volunteers
Mrs. Glock's class volunteered to sort and bag up unclaimed lost and found items. Items will be donated to Atlantic City Rescue Mission. The students enjoyed participating in this mini school cleanup event.
