Last Call for PERT Testing on April 30th
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We hope this message finds you well. As we approach the end of the school year, we want to inform you of an opportunity for your child to take PERT. On April 30th, we will be administering the Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) during the regular school day.
What is the PERT? The PERT is an entry-level placement test required for all degree-seeking students in the Florida College System. It assesses students’ readiness in English, reading, and mathematics. While there is no pass or fail, the results will impact the courses your child takes at our school.
Students will need a 3.0 GPA to be eligible for the assessment.
Why is this important? This will be our last PERT testing date for this academic year. Students who miss this opportunity will need to test at the PHSC campus or wait until next year.
Make-Up Work: Students who participate in the PERT will be responsible for any missed classwork. We encourage them to plan ahead and coordinate with their teachers to ensure they don’t fall behind.

An annual writing contest for Tampa Bay high school students.
2024 contest themes:
What if…Spanish expeditions led by Pánfilo de Narváez, Hernando de Soto and others had led to peaceful settlement in La Florida among the Timucua, Apalachee and Calusa instead of conflict and conquest?
What if…instead of remaining loyal to England in 1776, Florida joined its fellow 13 English colonies in declaring independence?
What if…Osceola had not died in captivity in 1838 in St. Augustine?
What if…the Everglades had not been drained and developed, and panthers were as common as alligators?
What if…the four Nazi agents who landed on Ponte Vedra Beach on June 16, 1942 had not been captured by the FBI?
Entries will be judged by a panel of experts, including:
· Dell, Aurora and Sidewise Award-winning author and editor Eric Choi
· Author, editor and founder of the Sidewise Award for Alternate History, Steven H Silver
· Sidewise Award-winning author, editor and professor Dr. Rick Wilber
The grand prize winner will receive:
· $200 grand prize
· Grand prize plaque
· Winning story published on the contest website
Runners-up will receive:
· $25 prize
· Award certificate
Entries are accepted now through May 31, 2024.
The contest is open to all students over the age of 13 in grades 9-12 in public, private and home schools in Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas and Polk counties. Stories must be previously unpublished and unsold. There is no fee to enter, and no limit to the number of stories a student may submit.
Testing - AICE General Paper and AP US History

Arrival Time: 8:45am
Test Start Time: 9:00am promptly
All students taking the AICE General Paper exam must report to the Multipurpose Room by 8:45am on April 25th and May 1st. Testing will begin at 9:00am sharp on both days.
AP US History Students in Mrs. Riordan Stallings class

Exam: US End-of-Course (EOC)
Arrival Time: 7:10am
Test Start Time: 7:30am
Students enrolled in AP US History will take the US History End-of-Course exam on May 2nd in the Multipurpose Room.

STEM Education Center Summer Program
We are pleased to announce the University of South Florida - STEM Education Center will host Summer School 2024 for high school students during July 1 - July 26, 2024.

Format and structure:
For Summer 2024, the program consists of four core topics:
· Mathematics (led by professor Razvan Teodorescu),
· Molecular Biology (led by Dr. Les Shaw, planned program: “Bad bugs, no drugs”),
· Physics (led by Dr. Lilia Woods, planned program: nanotechnology and materials-by-design),
· Advanced Visualization and Modelling (led by Dr. Howard Kaplan, planned program: 3D methods, AI training, robotics).
The daily schedule will include two activities in the morning (between 9:00 and 12:00) and two in the afternoon (1:30 to 4:30), which can be either classroom-based, laboratory-based, or small team group work.
Costs and fellowships:
A number of fellowships are available for qualified applicants, courtesy of the American Mathematical Society’s Young Scholars Program, the National Science Foundation, and private donors. For July 2024, the cost for non-residential students is $1,600.
Application process:
Interested applicants should submit the following application materials to razvan@usf.edu.
· A one-page statement of interest
· Two letters of recommendation from teachers or research mentors
· A copy of a recent transcript

USNA Summer Programs Season!
The Naval Academy Summer Seminar and Summer STEM Applications will remain open until April 15.
Naval Academy Summer Seminar offers an opportunity for rising high school seniors to experience USNA for one week. Participants learn about life at the Naval Academy, where academics, athletics, and professional training play equally important roles in developing our nation's future leaders. The Summer STEM Program is a great catalyst to initiate the pursuit of a future in science and engineering. Summer STEM is an opportunity for participants to create, build, and explore in world-class lab facilities, working alongside USNA’s distinguished faculty and Midshipmen.

Parents, we are in need of gently used clothes(School Appropriate) that your student is no longer using. Shoes, pants, shorts, shirts etc... NO bathing suits or intimates UNLESS they are brand new. Please drop off the items in the front office. We greatly appreciate your help!

The green passes for athletic parking are expired. Please complete the form by clicking here to complete the application for a Spring Sports Parking pass. ABC (Assist, Believe and Care) Program
The ABC (Assist, Believe and Care) Program was founded by former Pasco County Schools Superintendent Thomas E. Weightman and is officially called the Thomas E. Weightman ABC Program. The overarching goal of the program is to try and address those barriers that may interfere with the educational success of the child. The program is designed to provide support to students and their families that are experiencing economic hardship or in an immediate family crisis.
