We are excited to celebrate Valentine's Day on Friday, February 14th.

Teams are busy scheduling their celebrations. Contact your student's Advisory Teacher for more information.

Per our student handbook, please refrain from sending flowers to school. If flowers are sent, the student will be notified but the flowers will be kept in the office until the end of the day, when the student may come by the office to pick them up. Flowers in glass vases will not be sent on the bus; Do not send Balloons; they will not be accepted for delivery to students.

It's that time of year when everyone seems to be passing around those nasty cold and flu germs. Please encourage your students to wash their hands regularly with warm water and soap. Hand sanitizer should be used when hand washing is not convenient. Our district is taking many precautions to minimize the outbreak of these illnesses.

As a reminder, if your student is running a fever, they are to be absent from school until fever free for 24 hours without the aid of fever-reducing medication. If your student has a confirmed diagnosis of the flu, they are to remain at home for 5 days before returning to school and fever free for 24 hours without the aid of fever-reducing medication.

Last Thursday's Band Night has been rescheduled for this Thursday, February 13th. It's not too late to sign up! Students may pick up a permission slip in the CMSS office. 6th grade students who already turned in their permission slips do not need to fill out a new one.

During the Band Preview Night, students will try each instrument that is offered in 7th grade band. Pizza will be served to all participants. Students will need to be picked up at 7:15 pm by the cafeteria, not the front car rider line.

Our Service Learning Club is collecting new pairs of socks for local charities around Cabot. Students who donate a pair of socks will receive a paper pair of socks to decorate and hang in our hallways! We can't wait to see which hallway (5th or 6th) will be decorated with the most socks?!

Cabot Public Schools will be closed on Monday, February 17th in honor of President's Day.

CMSS will be conducting BMI screenings for all 6th grade students on Tuesday, February 18th. Scoliosis screenings will also be conducted on that day for all female 6th grade students. If you object to your child being screened for BMI and/or Scoliosis, parents will need to provide written documentation stating their objection before or on the day of the screenings.

Counselors from Junior High South will be visiting with 6th grade students on Wednesday, February 19th. They will be discussing scheduling and class options for 7th grade. Students will be bringing home a course selection paper to be returned with their course preferences marked. These do require a parent signature. Elective classes are filled on a first come-first served basis and have limited seating.

CMSS Builder's Club will be sponsoring a Pajama Day on Friday, February 21st. Students who donate $1 will be allowed to wear their PJs to school. All money collected will go to support local charities.

Our PRiDE celebration will be rescheduled soon!

5th graders have been participating in our PRiDE Program all year. It's time to celebrate! PRiDE stands for Panthers Resisting Drug Education Program. All 5th graders must return their permission slips to their Advisory teacher in order to attend the celebration at the CHS Fine Art Auditorium. For more information, please contact your child's advisory teacher.

The Cabot Panther Foundation will host its Annual Father Daughter Ball on Saturday, February 22nd at Cabot High School. Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, January 15th and are $20 per person. See the flier below for more information.

Does your child need some help with their homework or a quiet place to study before school? Our Homework Room is open every morning beginning at 7:30 in the GT Room. At least one math and one literacy teacher are available each morning in the Homework Room to help students with assignments.

CMSS Builder's Club is collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House located at Arkansas Children's Hospital through April 30th. Students can drop off their donations with their Advisory Teacher. Thanks for supporting this worthy cause!

The Advisory Class that buys the most yearbooks will win a Popcorn and Movie Party thanks to the Yearbook Club!

Box Tops for Education is still going strong and each box top counts as cash for CMSS! Since 1996, General Mills has donated over $913 million to schools just like CMSS.

You can continue to send in your Box Tops with your student OR you can download the Box Top App and choose CMSS at your school. Then, simply scan your grocery receipt and CMSS will be credited for each eligible item you purchased.

That's Right! Every student can enjoy a free breakfast each morning. Research has shown that children who eat breakfast are more likely to focus and perform better in the classroom.

Lunch prices will remain the same as last year:

• Elementary lunch: $2.40
• Secondary lunch $2.60
• Reduced lunch $0.40

If you are a family that is facing financial hardships, the most important thing you can do is to let us know. There is no deadline to apply for free and reduced meals. We will be more than happy to help you fill out the paperwork or apply online. If you don’t qualify for that program, they are still willing and able to provide assistance as needed. At the Cabot School District, “It’s about KIDS,” and your student could be part of the long history of academic excellence even if you don’t live in the district. CPS is currently accepting School Choice applications for the 2020-20201 school year. Applications should be turned into the Central Administrative Offices, located at 602 N. For pick up and drop off, cars will enter Panther Trail and turn around at the designated turn around spot, just past the water tower. Cars must use the "Merge" lane to create 1 lane of traffic heading toward Kerr Station Road. Panther Trail is a city street and must remain open for through traffic. Cars will turn into the CMSS driveway from Panther Trail.

Avoid dropping off/picking up your student in the parking lots. This creates traffic that could result in an injury to our students and staff. Parking lots are reserved for those parking and entering the building.

Morning Drop Off

• Drop off is 1 lane. Use the lane closest to the building.
• Please pull as far forward as possible when dropping off your student. This allows more students to exit the cars and speeds up the drop off line.
• Students will enter the building through the front doors.

Afternoon Pick Up

• Pick up is 2 lanes after entering the CMSS driveway. Cars must use the "Merge" lane to create 1 lane of traffic heading toward Kerr Station Road. Panther Trail is a city street and must remain open for through traffic.
• Present your placard to the caller as you approach the beginning of the car line.
• Students will listen for their name and go to the number called with their name.
• Cars will pull up to the number called. (#1 is near the 6th grade hall/closest to the Kerr Station exit/#10 is near the 5th grade hall/closest to the caller).
• Students will wait until the vehicle comes to a complete stop to load their car.
