Spirit Week Wrap Up!
Thanks to our Class Advisors, Team Leaders, PTO, and all Faculty members for helping to make last week's Spirit Week a huge success!
The week was packed with great activities, assemblies, and opportunities that gave our HMS school community a chance to come together as one for some fun while at the same time helping those who need it through activities like our food drive, book collection and Penny Wars.
To get an idea of just how much fun we had, please click on the slide show below.
Enjoy!
The Weather Outside is Frightful . . .
Winter has arrived and the temperatures are dropping!
Please remember that all students are expected to wait outside before school until the 7:20 bell, unless the temperature become dangerously cold or the weather is inclement.
Please be sure your middle schooler is dressed appropriately for these conditions (winter coats, hats, gloves, etc.)
Feel free to blame the principal if it makes this wardrobe battle a little easier in your household!
HMS Helps Out!
Grade 7 teams are coming together to support families in the Hingham community. During the week of December 9th we are asking grade 7 families to help by making a monetary donation that will be used to purchase gift cards for families in need this holiday season. Cash or checks made out to the Town of Hingham will be accepted. Donations will be collected by grade 7 team leaders during class.
- Mrs. McDougall - Great White Sharks
- Mrs. Duncan - Pirates
- Ms. Corriveau - Barracudas.
Thank you in advance for your support. We know it will make a difference.
Unified Sports at HMS
Hingham Middle School is very excited to be offering Unified Intramurals afterschool on Tuesdays throughout the months of January and February!
Unified Intramurals will be an opportunity for our neurodivergent students and students with intellectual disabilities to engage in after school games and sports related activities with the assistance of their neurotypical peers.
Unified sports is composed of athletes and peers. Athletes are our neurodivergent students and students with intellectual disabilities. A peer is a neurotypical student who would assist our athletes with scoring goals, leading warm ups, and being an all around support and friend on the playing field. Unified sports is sponsored by the Special Olympics.
If your middle schooler is interested in participating in Unified Intramurals, as either an athlete or peer, please fill out this google form
Between units of study in their French classes, Madame Weiss' students spent some time learning about French art and artists, and tried their hand at recreating some famous pieces. The results were truly masterpieces!
Pictured below are seventh graders Elisabetta Arienti, Georgia Clarke, Zoe Mullette, Abigail Weems recreating a work by Monet.
Private School Applications
If you are planning to apply to private schools for next school year, please review the attached paperwork describing the process and necessary paperwork.
Counselors and teachers are happy to accommodate these requests, and we ask that you give at least 3 weeks notice before any deadlines.
A few things for students (and families) to remember when seeking a recommendation . . .
Adequate notice is very important! Keep in mind that you are most likely not the only student asking this teacher for a letter of recommendation Ask your teachers and counselors what they need from you. In order to write your letter of recommendation, your they may need to know more about you as a person. Please provide them with important information that they may not have. For example, a list of your interests, volunteer work, and other things they may not be able to see in their classroom. Provide a list of all of your schools and their deadlines. Make direct contact with the person you are asking for a recommendation. We often receive automated email requests from schools with little or no communication from students and families. Asking the person if they are able to write you a recommendation before they receive an email request from the school is strongly encouraged.
Before submitting any electronic requests, please review and fill out the attached forms.
Thank you!
A huge "thank you" to our HMS PTO for bringing the Harvard Veritones acapella group to our school last week. Students were invited to join them on stage for a "Jingle Bells" sing-a-long, and it quickly became clear most students need to brush up on the second verse!
The Adventure Club had an amazing time on their latest trip to TA Fitness, where they were able to make use of their rock walls, ropes course, and other climbing equipment.
Watch for information on their next "adventure"!
Thanks to the HMPA for providing this handy and concise graphic of upcoming concerts!
