Dear GLOBE community,

I would like to wish you all a Happy Independence Day and trust you are having a fabulous summer. The start of the 2024-25 school year is a little under five weeks away, and we would like to update you on what has been happening here at GLOBE.

Five Year Strategic Plan

Last week, GLOBE’s Board of Directors voted to approve the initiatives and priorities of the new five year Strategic Plan. Outlined in this one page infographic, the initiatives and priorities form the very foundation of the Strategic Plan and will be at the forefront of everything we do here at GLOBE. Embedded in the fabric of daily operations, staff training, the school curriculum, events and activities, this graphic will feature heavily and be our 'North Star' in terms of GLOBE's growth and development over the next five years.

Full details of the Strategic Plan and its implementation will be presented to our community in the coming months in a variety of ways, including presentations and coffee talk discussions, details of which will be posted online and in future communications.

Admissions - Student Enrollment Forms and Immunization Requirements

Look out for an email from our Admissions Team next week with details on how to complete the Student Enrollment Form that must be completed for every student, together with any other required documents, as we approach the start of the new school year. We have been informed that the Infinite Campus platform is currently undergoing its annual update and maintenance and will be operational again later next week.

Transportation Ridership Program - Registration ends July 15

Back-to-School

Keep a lookout for a communication on July 17 that will provide key information about Orientation Day on Monday, August 5, the first day of school on Wednesday, August 7, and useful resources to help your student(s) prepare for the first semester.

This is an extremely exciting time for our school and we can't wait to embark on this next chapter in The GLOBE Academy's bright and promising future.

A new feature you may notice during your next visit to Upper Campus is a perimeter fence. Installed in June, the fence spans the entire frontage of the campus, providing extra security for students and staff.

It was an absolute pleasure to host all of the amazing students who attended this year's Summer Camp. During the mornings, students experienced language and cultural enrichment through art, music, games, conversation, creativity, and even food preparation. French class made waffles and the 2nd and 3rd grade Mandarin class made boba tea. In the afternoons the fun continued with art, STEM challenges, GLOBE Kitchen, Capoeira, dance classes, music, and technology.

Other activities included a really great visit by a petting zoo. All of the students took part in a pottery painting exercise. On another occasion, rocks, minerals and fossils were set up in the Village Plaza by a representative of the Georgia Mineral Society for all of the students to explore. Each Friday we held an outdoor field day and indoor treats, concluding on the last day of camp with special snacks and socializing.

A few GLOBE staff members recently took part in an independently organized trip to Peru. The group travelled to Lima, where they went on to visit the Miraflores and Barranco districts, the Larco Herrera Museum, The Sacred Valley, Mountain of Seven Colors, and Machu Picchu. Among the group, you may be able to spot Rochelle Lofstrand (Head of School, Upper Campus), Joan Marks (Assistant Head of School, Upper Campus), Melissa Lewis (Director of Athletics), Melanie Speed (Exceptional Education) and trip organizer and Middle School Spanish teacher Yulyan Anderson. What a fantastic experience!

School Picture Day is currently scheduled to take place at both campuses on August 27, with a photo re-take day and class photos (Kindergarten through 5th grade) planned for September 24.

The Athletics website is currently being updated with information for Fall sports, so please check back in a few weeks. Current tryout and practice information can be found below. Unfortunately there will be no volleyball summer camp this year due to time constraints.

Tryout dates

Girls Volleyball - August 7 and August 8, from 3:30pm to 5:00pm.

Cross Country (timed runs) - August 12 and August 14, from 3:30pm to 5:00pm.

Ultimate Frisbee and Boys Soccer - August 13 and August 15, from 4:00pm to 5:30pm, at Silverbacks Field.

Practice days

Soccer and Ultimate Frisbee will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Silverbacks Field.

Cross County will be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Girls Volleyball practice days will be Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and some Fridays.

Coach Gerardo and Pablo start their soccer camp next week and have a few openings left. If you are interested, please follow this link and register as soon as possible.

GLOBE Games

This year's GLOBE Games event is scheduled to take place at Silverbacks Field on August 9, with a 'rain day' of August 23. Further details will be provided in the coming weeks.
