Pioneer Post
BJHS Week of November 18-22, 2024
We acknowledge and are mindful that Bidwell Jr. High School stands on lands that were originally occupied by the first people of this area, the Mechoopda, and we recognize their distinctive spiritual relationship with this land, the flora, the fauna, and the waters that run near campus. We are humbled that our campus resides upon sacred lands that since time immemorial has sustained the Mechoopda people and continues to do so today.

Saturday Academy
SATURDAY SUCCESS ACADEMY
Bidwell Families,
In order to help all students maintain positive momentum as the school year progresses, we will be offering Saturday Success Academies on the following dates:
12/14, 1/11, 1/25, 2/8, 2/22, 3/8, 3/29, 4/12, 4/26, 5/10, 5/17
The purpose of these academies is to provide productive, fun environments for students to strengthen their connection to our school while completing missing assignments and raising their grades under the supervision of a certificated staff member. Besides time for work completion and help, students will have access to engaging enrichment and/or recreational activities as well. Saturday Success Academy is not designed to be a punishment but rather another opportunity to help each and every Bidwell student achieve our goal of at least 95% attendance, zero missing assignments, and zero failing grades. You will receive an invitation if your student has multiple absences, multiple missing assignments, and/or multiple failing/in-danger of failing grades. Space is limited so we will prioritize invitations based on need. Please contact me if you don’t receive an invitation but would like your student to attend Saturday Success Academy. If you would like to sign your student up for the 12/14/24 Saturday Success Academy now, please click on the link to the Form:

Positive Pioneer - Emilee Hunt
This Positive Pioneer Award is given to someone who goes above and beyond their daily responsibilities to create a supportive, uplifting environment for both students and colleagues. This individual embodies the spirit of encouragement and respect, making everyone feel valued and inspired.
This month’s recipient is a role model for us all. Through their positive attitude, compassionate nature, and dedication to our school community, they remind us of the incredible impact one person can have.
They are always there to lend a hand, whether it's assisting with tardies, taking care of our furry visitors, or walking classroom to classroom—all six periods—to collect attendance when the power is out. Nothing is too big or too small if it means helping someone in need.
This person truly makes a difference at our school, and they are one of the many reasons I love working at Bidwell.
It is my pleasure to present this month’s Positive Pioneer Award to the remarkable, and amazing Emilee Hunt!

Collaborative Colleague - Stephanie Johnson
Stephanie Johnson is our Collaborative Colleague award winner. She is a leader on several teams here at Bidwell Junior. Not only does Stephanie lead/facilitate our Bidwell Way Team meetings, but she is also a leader in the Physical Education department. What makes Stephanie special is her team first mindset. She has the "Whatever it takes," attitude and is often ready to support her colleagues in any way on campus. She is also a welcome presence in the main office and has proven to be a great teammate to administration when called upon. Stephanie Johnson is well deserving of the Collaborative Colleague Award for the month of October.

Discovery Shoppe Grant Awarded to Bidwell Music
Bidwell Junior High School Foundation Treasurer, Mike Christensen, and BJHS Music teacher, Tanner Johns, collaborated to write a grant proposal to Chico’s Discovery Shoppe in May 2024. The application process included a written proposal, an interview with Discovery Shoppe volunteers, Elizabeth Lavezzi and Sandi Needles, and an October 1 oral presentation to the entire group of Discovery Shoppe volunteers and staff members. The presentation included a beautiful flute solo performed by BJHS music student Shyann Wu. On October 22, Kathi Mathiesen, our Discovery Shoppe sponsor, notified us that our $10,000 grant proposal was approved. Tanner will use the funds to purchase percussion instruments, expand the music library to include age appropriate selections from diverse composers, and to make needed repairs on dozens of instruments. Pictured are Tanner Johns (left), Mike Christensen (middle) and Kathi Mathiesen (right).
