Pyramid of Success
Coach Wooden believed and taught that the most important responsibility each of us had to ourselves was to do everything we could to achieve our own potential. He offered his Pyramid of Success and his definition of Success as a guide, stepping stones to help young people understand what it really takes to make the effort – 100% – to fulfill their potential and do their best. Every couple of weeks, our students will focus on one or two character traits from Coach Wooden's Pyramid of Success. Positive examples of students exemplifying the character traits will be recognized with the Pyramid of Success Awards. Classroom lessons will reinforce elements of the Pyramid of Success. Additionally, whole school assemblies will feature character traits from Coach Wooden’s Pyramid of Success.
For the next two weeks, we will be focusing on Cooperation:
- Cooperation. “Working together with others required teamwork. If you wish to be heard, listen. Cooperation means working together in all ways to accomplish the common goal. It also allows individuals to move forward together instead of going off in different directions. Two horses pulling a wagon must move in the same direction or their wagon does not move.”
This Week at Adams Elementary
This week, several of our talented 3rd-6th grade students had the exciting opportunity to participate in a C-STEM robotics scrimmage, putting their coding and problem-solving skills to the test! Our students worked diligently to program their robots using block coding, guiding their robots through a challenging track designed to test their precision, planning, and teamwork. Throughout the scrimmage, students showed incredible focus and perseverance, adjusting their code to navigate obstacles and refine their robot’s movements. Their hard work paid off as they successfully maneuvered their robots along the course, demonstrating impressive skill and creativity. We’re so proud of our robotics All-Stars for their dedication and teamwork in representing Adams Elementary. They did a fantastic job and showcased the power of STEM learning in action. Congratulations to all who participated—you’ve made us proud, and we can’t wait to see where your robotics journey takes you next!
This week, Adams Elementary hosted a special Community Learning Day for parents of our 1st-grade students, giving families an inside look at the early literacy routines that support their children’s reading journey. Parents observed our Bridge to Reading and Heggerty programs in action, watching how these routines are helping our students build foundational literacy skills. We are grateful to all the families who joined us, as their involvement plays a big role in our students' success. The connection between home and school is vital, and it was wonderful to see parents engaged in learning about these literacy-building routines. Next week, we’ll continue our Community Learning Days in kindergarten on Thursday and Friday. We’re excited to welcome our kindergarten families and to share how we’re helping our youngest All-Stars develop a love for reading. We hope to see all of our families join us for these special days!
Today, Adams Elementary proudly hosted a heartfelt celebration in honor of Veterans Day, recognizing the dedication and bravery of our community's veterans and active-duty service members. Our 3rd-grade students opened the event by singing a patriotic song, filling the air with gratitude and respect. Each special guest was then presented with an American flag pin by one of our Student Council representatives, a small token of our deep appreciation for their commitment and sacrifices.
As we observe Veterans Day this Monday, we encourage our entire Adams Elementary family to take a moment to honor and thank all veterans for their invaluable service to our country. Their courage and sacrifice inspire us all, and we are grateful for the opportunity to express our appreciation together. Thank you to everyone who joined us in making this celebration a meaningful tribute to our heroes.
At Adams Elementary, we believe that strong literacy skills are the foundation for lifelong learning and success. We are thrilled to recognize our amazing kindergarten and 6th-grade students for reaching significant milestones in their literacy journeys! Our kindergarten All-Stars have been hard at work mastering early literacy benchmarks, a crucial first step in developing confident readers. Through their dedication and enthusiasm, these young students are building the skills that will support their academic growth in the years to come. In 6th grade, our students have shown tremendous perseverance and passion by reaching their Accelerated Reader (AR) goals. Their commitment to reading and advancing their comprehension skills highlights the importance of setting goals and achieving them through determination and hard work. Congratulations to our incredible readers in both kindergarten and 6th grade! We are so proud of each of you for your hard work, focus, and love of learning. Keep shining, Adams All-Stars!
We are thrilled to recognize three classrooms that achieved perfect attendance last week! A big congratulations to Mrs. Ball’s, Mrs. Brown’s, and Mrs. Mazza’s classes for setting a fantastic example of commitment and teamwork. Your dedication to being at school every day is something to be proud of! Consistent attendance is incredibly important for elementary students. Every school day provides students with opportunities to learn, connect with their classmates, and build foundational skills that set them up for future success. When students attend regularly, they don’t miss out on important lessons, hands-on activities, and valuable classroom discussions. Attendance also fosters a sense of responsibility and helps students feel more connected to their school community. Thank you, Mrs. Ball’s, Mrs. Brown’s, and Mrs. Mazza’s classes, for leading the way with your commitment to being here every day. Let’s keep up the great attendance, All-Stars!
This Wednesday, Adams Elementary hosted our much-anticipated Literacy Lunch on the Lawn, and what a fantastic turnout we had! Families joined their children for lunch on the school lawn, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere. It was a wonderful sight to see so many parents, grandparents, and siblings gathered together, enjoying the beautiful day with food and stories. After lunch, students and their families took the opportunity to share a book together during lunch recess, reinforcing our love for reading and the importance of literacy. Seeing our students engaged with their families in this way was truly heartwarming and highlighted our community’s commitment to supporting literacy. Thank you to all the families who joined us to make this event such a success! We’re excited to announce that we’ll be hosting another Literacy Lunch on the Lawn in the spring. We hope to see even more families then as we continue to foster a love for reading and family engagement at Adams Elementary.

Volunteer Information
We are happy to welcome volunteers to our campus. Volunteering is a perfect opportunity to become more familiar with our school and support your child’s teacher.
Adams volunteers are required to complete a volunteer application through the NMUSD website and check in at the office each time through our Raptor System. Please see the link: NMUSD Volunteers. Once your application is approved, you will receive a notification. All cleared volunteers will then complete an orientation at Adams.
Please note that field trip volunteers need to go through the volunteer/visitor system before attending a field trip.
Attendance
Attendance is very important to a child’s success in school. Students are expected to be here each day on time and ready to learn. However, we understand that there are occasions where an absence may occur. Please be sure to contact the absence hotline to report all absences at 714-424-4702.
Did you know? Research shows that chronically absent students (students with 10% absences over the school year = 18 absences) are less likely to read on grade level by 3rd grade, are more likely to score lower on standardized tests, get suspended in middle school, and are at least four times more likely to not complete high school.
Attendance Matters!!!
Safety Protocols
All teachers and Adams staff have been trained on the Standard Response Protocol. This protocol allows everyone on site to use clear and common language during emergency responses. Whenever emergency drills are held at Adams Elementary (dates are all posted on the Adams Elementary website), we will inform our parent community through our weekly newsletter.
