Principal's Message
At Oakwood Elementary School, we are Respectful π€, Responsible π, and Safe π·
πAttention Oakwood Families! Safety Reminder!π
πΈThe speed limit around schools in California is 25 miles per hour (mph) within 500 to 1,000 feet of a school when children are present. However, some school zones may have a speed limit as low as 15 mph.
Here are some other things to know about driving around schools in California:
πSchool buses
When a school bus has its flashing yellow lights on, you should slow down and prepare to stop. If the bus has its flashing red lights on, you must stop until the lights stop flashing.
πSchool safety patrols
Obey the directions of school crossing guards.
πFines
Fines for speeding in a school zone are higher than in other areas. The fine can double or triple depending on the severity of the violation. You may also have points added to your driving record, which can lead to increased insurance rates and even a suspended driver's license.
πLocal jurisdiction
The speed limit around a school is set by the city or county where the school is located.
For the safety of our students, families, and staff, please slow down.
Veteran's Day
On behalf of our entire Oakwood Elementary community, we want to say thank you to our Veteran's for their service and sacrifice for our country.
