Monk Fryston Newsletter 14.6.24
The school target for next week is the same as last week;
Selby Food Bank - Can You Help?
Selby Food Bank are struggling for donations of the items listed below. If you can help by donating anything you think they may be able to use that is not perishable then please drop it in the box in the school entrance. They are coming in on the 20th June to collect any donations. School Council will be organising a more permanent box in the entrance that they hope people can drop donations in on a more regular basis. Thank you as always for your continued support.
Our most wished for items currently include:
- Tinned or Mashed Potatoes
- Shampoo, Conditioner and Shower Gel
- Soup
- Tinned Hot or Cold Meat (Corned Beef, Tinned Ham, Mince and Onion, Chicken in White Sauce etc)
- Cereals
But ultimately any food that is shelf stable, unopened and in date is all massively useful to us. We also love any toiletries and baby items (nappies, milk, baby toiletries).
Summer BBQ 28th June.
Can you help at the BBQ?
We are looking for volunteers to help at the bbq, particularly with cooking and serving food. If you are able to help please speak to Mr Weights or someone on the PTA.
Seaside Day & Bling discount code.
Next week, our KS1 children have a Seaside Day experience in school. This has been possible due to sponsorship from several local businesses including Aldi who have provided ice cream, and Bling who have provided sprinkles. Bling are offering 10% discount for parents using the code BFT10 on their website blingingredients.com
Great Science Share
Our Year 4 class represented the school wonderfully at the Great Science Share in Knottingley this week. They gave a presentation about friction, which they thought was the greatest force of all, and we are very proud of their efforts.
Changing Me.
During this term, we will be teaching the ‘Changing Me’ Puzzle from the Jigsaw PSHE programme. In the Early Years and Key Stage 1, the focus is on life cycles, valuing our own bodies and learning some vocabulary for the external body parts, that we might use if we needed to talk to an adult such as a nurse or a doctor. In Key Stage 2,there is a particular focus on the Health Education element of puberty (including menstruation) and the changes that happen inside and outside the body. This is taught in a way that helps pupils feel prepared for the main changes that happen before puberty starts, and to encourage them to talk to an adult at home or at school if they have any questions. In Year 5 and 6, there will also be a focus on Human Reproduction at an age appropriate level. If you would like to find out more information, please see the Policies section of our website or ask your child's class teacher.
York Opera Workshop 26th June.
York Opera have kindly offered to run a workshop with our Year 4 children on 26th June.
Whole School Transition Day 3rd July.
Don’t forget that the whole school transition day takes place on 3rd July. We will ask children to come into their new classes when they come into school that day. They are able to use their new entrance door and cloakroom.
One Way System - PLEASE stick to it.
Please remember to follow our one-way system around the playground. We had a near miss this week when someone coming down the stairs instead of the slope knocked someone over who was correctly coming up the stairs. This is something we are trying to avoid.

Free school meals for all years for pupils whose families receive financial support.
If you are in receipt of certain benefits, your child could also qualify for free school meals during all school years. To qualify you must be receiving:
Universal Credit, provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods (£616.67 per month)
Income Support
Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Support under part six of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
The guarantee element of Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit, provided you are also not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual household gross income that does not exceed £16,190 (as assessed by HMRC)
Working Tax Credit run-on, paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
Please note that contributions-based benefits, including contribution-related Jobseekers' Allowance do not entitle you to claim free school meals.
You will receive an instant decision on whether your application is successful. If it is, we will fully process the application in 5 working days and notify the school. Once the school has received this your child can begin enjoying free school meals. You should continue to pay until confirmation comes through. Schools may be able to arrange reimbursement of payment made while your entitlement is being confirmed.
Free school meals claims cannot be backdated. They are awarded from the date we receive the application, once eligibility is confirmed. This is because there is a legal requirement for a request to be made, before a free school meal can be provided. If you are not entitled to free school meals, you will be notified in writing.
