December 2024
Wrapping up the Semester
The late Thanksgiving this year seems to have accelerated the end of our semester! See below for some last-minute events and some resource reminders.
Graduate Student Happy Hour
Repeating our announcement from last month, the Loyola Notre Dame Library is hosting a graduate student happy hour onsite on Wednesday, December 4th from 5-7pm. Enjoy free refreshments (beer, wine, & non-alcoholic options) & hors-d’oeuvres, and if you wish, get some grad-level academic writing tips with the Loyola University and Notre Dame of Maryland University Writing Centers.
Tutoring Available
Did you know that free tutoring services are available for us as graduate students at Loyola? Learn more about The Study and how to schedule an appointment at their website, or through their online scheduling platform, WC Online. Feel free also to email thestudy@loyola.edu.
Assistance is also provided on academic skills and organizational coaching. Again, schedule an appointment through The Study's scheduling platform, or email The Study.
See the "Miracle on 34 Street" Lights
Hampden Lights, or "Miracle on 34th Street," is a Baltimore tradition that dates back over 75 years in which a street in the Hampden neighborhood in Baltimore is adorned with an abundant display of holiday lights for all to enjoy. The spirited display is enjoyed by thousands of Baltimore residents every season and is sure to get you in the Christmas mood!
A free shuttle bus will be taking Loyola students to and from the event. Shuttles will pick up from the front entrance of Newman Towers on 100 W. Cold Spring Lane and run a continuous loop starting at 6pm, dropping off at the corner of 36th and Chestnut, outside the Charmery. The last bus returning to campus will depart the event at 10:00pm. The experience and shuttles are free, but vendors and storefronts will have food, hot chocolate, and merchandise for sale.
Pre-register using the QR code above, or here. Students then must sign-in on the Bridge when boarding the shuttle.
Graduate Assistantships
Are you interested in part-time work on-campus next semester? Several opportunities are available, and more listings will be appearing in the coming weeks. Two sources for listings are:
- Handshake, Loyola's student employment platform
- Loyola's Graduate Assistantship Position site
Please view both sites, as the position listings may differ between them.
Housing Registry
Transition between semesters can sometimes mean transitions in housing. Loyola offers a free service for Loyola students, faculty, and staff to advertise a room or property. Find more information at the Loyola Housing website, or at offcampushousing.loyola.edu.
We wish you the best of luck as you take your final exams, and look forward to seeing you in January!
