Attn 8th grade Parents:
Rising Freshman Night
Off to Middle School Night
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are writing to inform you of an important matter that has come to my attention. Recently, we have become aware of instances where inappropriate and explicit sexual content has been discovered on student phones. While we understand that this can be a difficult topic to address, we believe it is essential to bring it to your attention so that we can work together to support our students in making safe and responsible choices.
As a school, we are committed to fostering a safe and respectful learning environment. We encourage all parents and guardians to speak openly with their children about appropriate digital behavior, the potential consequences of sharing or possessing explicit material, and the importance of respecting themselves and others online.
We recommend taking the following steps:
- Check your child’s device: Review the content on their phones, social media accounts, and messaging apps.
- Discuss digital safety: Have a conversation about the risks of sharing or viewing explicit content and the potential legal and emotional consequences.
- Set boundaries: Establish clear guidelines for phone and internet use, and consider using parental controls where appropriate.
We are here to support both you and your child in navigating these challenges. If you have any questions, concerns, or would like resources to help guide these conversations, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your partnership in fostering a safe and positive environment for all students.
Sincerely,
Dr. Brown
