Skipton Community Orchestra
Spring Newsletter 2014
Hope you've had a 'eggciting' Easter!
We hope you have all had a great Easter and are enjoying the new range of music. 2014 is proving to be very busy so we'd best get 'cracking' on with the newsletter....*groan*
Every vote needed again....
We've applied for another grant but this time it is for £5000 with Engage Mutual Assurance....eek! If successful then it would make the orchestra financially stable for the next 5 years, allowing us to build up our income so we could become self financing. We are very lucky to have been shortlisted so please vote for us as the groups who gain the most votes obtain the grant! You can do it through this link: https://www.engagemutual.com/foundation/projects/skipton-community-orchestra/. Unfortunately, it is a bit of a faff as you need to register, activate the email link, login and then vote. However, it will be worth it! Please don't forget that family and friends can vote for us too. We will let you know how we got on after the voting closes on 31st May.
Summer 2014 concert news
Holy Trinity Church have told us that they would like us back at their annual Summer Fayre this year. Last summer was a great success and we hope that our fabulous TV and film themed concert will be just as well received, if not better! It will be held inside the church on the afternoon of Saturday 12th July and the exact times are to be confirmed. Please keep checking through our website and/or Facebook page and we will let you know at rehearsals. As usual we will publicise it nearer the time!
Christmas news......what?!
I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride it well!
As you may know a small cycling event is coming through Skipton in July. We've been asked by Holy Trinity Church to be part of their 'Holy Trinity Festivities - Fêtes de Sainte Trinité', which is taking place on the three weekends leading up to the event. The programme will consist of three evening performances on Saturday 14, 21 and 28 June. We have been asked to be part of an evening concert on 14 June at 7.30 pm and would be grateful if you are able to play at this event. We will be playing a selection of music we have already been rehearsing as well as a few bicycle or French pieces! In addition to the evening concerts there are also other performances of music, dancing, street entertainment etc on Saturday 21 and 28 June between 10 am - 3 pm by other organisations. The festivities will be jointly promoted by Holy Trinity and Marie Curie Cancer Care, the official charity partner of the Grand Départ so all proceeds raised will be going to help a very worthy cause.
Funding news
All your voting worked last autumn! We were kindly awarded £500 from Skipton Building Society Grassroots Giving Fund as one of the 160 groups nationally that received the most votes. This was excellent news and it gave us some money to buy a selection of percussion instruments for an audience to enjoy and try out at our concerts. We also bought a violin as we hope to build up a collection of musical instruments over the coming years for members and the public to use. If you know of any friends or relatives who have an unloved musical instrument lurking in their loft gathering dust, please ask them to donate it to us!
More funding news......how fab!
New orchestra photos
As we were kindly given a grant by Skipton Building Society they organised some publicity photos. Luckily you can view them through this link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/g59iklwaau94xz6/x-fMUwZ1Dh. We've added three below for those who may not use the internet. I'm sure you will agree the shots with us all in are fantastic!
Keeping in touch...
We end on some sad news.....
