Principal Update
Dear Families:
We’d like to remind you of the importance of clear communication when there are changes to your child’s pick-up or drop-off routine. If your plans change, please contact both the main office and your child’s classroom teacher to ensure a smooth transition. This also applies to any upcoming vacations—keeping us informed helps us support your child’s safety and well-being and aids in our planning processes.
Please note: Teachers are actively engaged in instruction and may not be able to check their emails regularly throughout the day. For time-sensitive changes, calling the main office is the best way to ensure your message is received promptly.
On a joyful note, we had a wonderful time celebrating the 100th Day of School in Kindergarten this week! They dressed up as senior citizens, and there was so much gray hair, canes, and glasses–they literally aged decades overnight!
Warmly,
Dr. Ruesch
Digital Mobile Devices
All personal electronic devices such as cell phones must remain in students’ lockers or can be given to classroom teachers for safe keeping throughout the school day. Smart watches may be worn, but they must be set to Schooltime or disabled for texting and calling during school hours (8:00-2:40).
This minimizes disruptions and distractions to the instructional day and maintains a productive learning environment for all students. We'd like to communicate the district's existing personal electronic devices expectations to minimize distractions and enhance face-to-face classroom connections:
Digital Mobile Devices are not permitted in learning environments. Devices must remain powered down and out of sight during class time.
Valentine's Day Guidance
As we approach Valentine’s Day, we are excited to celebrate with our students! If your child would like to bring in Valentine’s cards and/or treats to share, please use the following guidelines:
- All items must be peanut and tree nut free to ensure the safety of all our students with allergies.
- Please bring enough for the whole class so everyone can participate and feel included.
- No eating of treats at school – Teachers will remind students to bring all treats home so that families can decide what is okay to eat.
Thank you for helping us make this a fun and safe celebration for everyone!
CogAT testing for 2nd and 5th grade
Between February 24th and March 5th, students in 2nd and 5th grade will take the Cognitive Abilities Test ™ (CogAT ®). This assessment is intended to measure reasoning and problem-solving skills. Information gathered from the CogAT will be used by Barrington 220’s teaching staff as one way to examine students' reasoning skills. Here is the letter from the district regarding the testing.
Soul Harbor Event
Soul Harbor is a really great organization that supports our students here at Rose. Monthly, select students are able to spend some time reading time with a therapy dog. They are hosting a event for Valentine's Day.
Technology Support
Do you have questions about your child's iPad, technology fees or about digital citizenship? See the presentation to the PTO from last Friday. You can always contact our Library Technology Associate (LTA) with any of these questions as well. Her contact information is below:
