Our Learning Community...
The storm has come and gone, but we are in for more wet weather this week! San Diego Unified has resources available for students, families, and staff, including food, personal necessities, shelter information, and mental health services. If you or someone you know are in need of flood-related support, please call the San Diego Unified Health and Wellness Hotline at 760-334-7878 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Information and resources are also available 24/7 by calling 2-1-1 or visiting 211San Diego online.
This past week started with an exciting assembly from the San Diego Fleet Science Center and continued as we launched Black History Month. Check out below for family resources, connections to the classroom, and photos of some of the highlights.
This Friday our PTA will be hosting Cup O' Collaboration after the morning bell in the auditorium. This is an informal time to meet and connect. Our PTA will share about what they do and how you can get involved supporting your child's school experience. PTA members and non-members are welcome to come! Check out the flyer below for more details. Free coffee and a door prize give away will be happening, we hope to see you there!
Black History Month
“Through the art of photography we can see just how human and how special we really are. Images can be powerful reinforcements. They can be examples of who we are and aspire to be. WE LOVE YOU, will share portraits of the Black boys and men in our communities showing each other as well as the world that we are not only human and should be treated as such but, we are LOVED.”
~Founder Bryon Summers
Highlights from Last Week...
On Monday our PTA set up two assemblies with the San Diego Fleet Science Center. All students were able to enjoy the assembly focused on Superhero Science. The Fleet Science Center team showcased super strength and other powers through the basics of science in this super-charged, super-fun show!
On Thursday we launched Black History Month as a school site. Each classroom received a collection of new books highlighting the contributions of Black people past and present to add to their libraries. Our team has selected four books to be used as a schoolwide read alouds over the course of the month. One book to be introduced each Monday of Black History Month with a student speaker introducing the book during the morning announcements. Additional read alouds, writing pieces, videos, and activities will be happening in classrooms based on grade levels.
