Message from the Principal, Sandra Calkins
As we approach the end of another school year, I want to take a moment to sincerely thank you for entrusting us with your children and for your continued partnership in their education. It has been a year filled with growth, learning, and wonderful progress, and we are so proud of all that our students have accomplished.
To celebrate the hard work and achievements of our students and staff, we will be hosting a school-wide Water Day on Tuesday, May 20th. This fun event is a chance for everyone to enjoy some well-deserved play and relaxation. A special thank you to Mr. Robles and his company Festivity Rentals for their incredibly generous donation of the water slides that will surely make the day extra special!
We are also excited to celebrate our 5th grade students during their promotion ceremony on Wednesday, May 21st at 2:00 PM. It is always bittersweet to see them move on to middle school, but we are filled with pride as we reflect on how much they’ve grown and flourished since kindergarten. We will miss them dearly and wish them all the best in this exciting next chapter.
On the last day of school, Wednesday, May 22nd at 9:00 AM, we will hold our End-of-Year Recognition Ceremony to celebrate our students’ 4th quarter academic achievements. This special event will also feature performances by our Folklorico and Mariachi groups, who have dedicated countless hours of practice through our after-school program. We are so proud of their talent and commitment. A heartfelt thank you to our Folklorico Instructor, Ms. Gomez-Peralta , and our Mariachi Director, Ms. Swift, for their unwavering guidance and support of our students.
Thank you again for a wonderful school year. We wish all of our families a safe, joyful, and restful summer break!
21st CCLC- After School Programs/ Summer School
May 2nd marks the last day of the 21st CCLC program.
We’ve had many successful events this year, thanks to the dedication of Mission View teachers and staff who provided meaningful instructional and enrichment opportunities for our students.
A special thank you to our community partners: Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona, Living Streets Alliance, and the U of A School Garden Workshop—your collaboration made a big impact!
Highlights from this season include:
Dos Manos Puppet Club shared a heartfelt story about a loved one growing older.
Bike Club completed a 2.25-mile ride from South Tucson to Downtown—well done!
Girl Scouts engaged in fun activities, earned pins, and made new friends. Their bridging ceremony will be held on May 2 at 3:10 p.m.

Counselor's Corner
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Character Strong counseling lessons in May will have the theme of creativity.
I hope this summer will be a wonderful, creative time for you and your family. It can be precious time together and also time to reinforce what was learned during the school year. Research shows that kids who don’t read during the summer come back to school reading at a lower level than when the summer began.
Fun relationship time is so important for children’s mental health and resiliency. Children do better in school when they have secure, safe relationships. They learn how to work through problems, verbalize feelings and develop all those important social skills. I hope you can carve out some special family time this summer and have a wonderful summer!
Have a good month of May and a happy summer,
Your counselor,
Jan Milligan
