Rainbow is Celebrating Red Ribbon Week! 10/28-11/1
Dear Rainbow Families,
Red Ribbon Week was developed in 1988 to promote an awareness of the dangers of alcohol and other drugs. This special week was developed to honor the memory of Enrique Camarena. During this week, we will have activities to educate our students on the importance of making positive choices. Our goal is to increase awareness of drugs and the effect they can have on our futures. We want to help our students develop effective problem-solving and decision-making skills for them to make safe and healthy choices.
There will be a building-wide coloring contest, and 1 winner will be recognized per grade level.
Let’s stand together and show our school spirit to celebrate Red Ribbon Week 2024. This year’s theme is: “Life is a Movie, Film Drug Free.” Please participate in the following school spirit activities:
Monday, 10/28 ~ “Put a Cap on Drugs”
Wear a hat.
Tuesday, 10/29 ~ “Support a Healthy Body”
Wear the color pink to support breast cancer awareness.
Wednesday, 10/30 - “Sock It to Drugs”
Wear crazy socks.
Thursday, 10/31 – “Say Boo to Drugs!”
Students may wear costumes to school.
**Please be sure costumes are school-appropriate (no gore, weapons, capes, hoods, or complete face coverings).**
Friday, 11/1 - “Peace Out to Drugs”
Wear tie dye shirts.

Fall Festivities at Rainbow
Dear Rainbow Families,
Fall is here! The leaves are turning colors, the temperatures are finally beginning to fall, and the night sky is getting darker more quickly each day. With October comes a change in the weather. Please send your student to school with clothing that is appropriate for the weather of the day so that they are comfortable and warm when going out to recess.
October is typically a very busy month at Rainbow Elementary School. We begin the month with Fire Prevention Week, quickly move on Red Ribbon Week, and the month finally ends with our Fall Festival Classroom Celebrations. The purpose of all of these events is to celebrate our community, provide fun and engaging opportunities for our students and their families, and continue long-standing school traditions.
We will be celebrating school and classroom Fall Festivities on Thursday, October 31st. Your child’s teacher will be providing you with classroom Fall Festivities information. If you are donating a treat for classroom festivities, all treat donations must be store bought. Individually wrapped items such as individual bags of pretzels or Rice Krispie treats are preferred.
Our Fall Festivities coincide with Red Ribbon Spirit Week. On Thursday, October 31st, our theme is “Say BOO to Drugs!” Students may wear a costume to school to participate in “Say BOO to Drugs!” Spirit Day. Students can wear their costumes to school in the morning and enjoy wearing them all day! Because students will be wearing costumes all day, be mindful of costumes and bathroom usage. Please be sure costumes are school appropriate (no gore, weapons, or complete face coverings) If your child plans to wear any face paint it must be applied at home before the start of school.
We will be having a “Say BOO to Drugs!” costume parade at school. Students from Kindergarten-5th Grade will be showing off their costumes during a parade. Be sure that your student wears comfortable shoes and appropriate clothing because, weather permitting, the parade will be outside. If it rains, the parade will not be held. The parade will start at 1:30 PM. Parents are welcome to come and watch the parade that will take place on the back playground. We ask that parents do not enter the building for parties unless they are a designated homeroom parent. If you plan on picking your student up from school immediately following the parade, an early dismissal note must be submitted to the main office the morning of October 31st. Please understand that classroom festivities will continue after the parade.
Here is our parade schedule:
Fifth Grade: 1:30 PM
Fourth Grade: 1:50 PM
Third Grade: 2:10 PM
Second Grade: 2:30 PM
First Grade: 2:50 PM
Kindergarten: 3:10 PM
If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher. If you wish that your student does not participate in school and classroom Fall Festivities on October 31st, please contact your child’s teacher and an alternative activity will be provided.
The change in weather also brings a lot more parents driving their children to and from school. Please be mindful of this and make sure your child, and all of our students, are safe. Please keep your speed down and use the appropriate pick-up and drop-off zone. Please also be mindful and courteous to our teachers who are working to keep your children safe and the flow of traffic moving.
Kind Regards,
Mrs. Stauffer
Volunteer and Field Trip Chaperone Information
Dear Rainbow Families,
As the school year is underway, I would like to inform you of the Coatesville Area School District school board approved policy No.916: Volunteers. The purpose of this policy is to recognize that volunteers can make valuable contributions to the school district. All schools within the district encourage the use of volunteers subject to the requirements of Applicable Law and this policy.
There are two distinct definitions within the policy regarding volunteers and helpers.
· Volunteer: an adult applying for or performing an unpaid position as a volunteer who is responsible for the welfare of a child or children or having direct contact with children. A volunteer may supervise students without the presence of a teacher or certified paraprofessional. Volunteers may undertake activities such as: field trip chaperones, tutoring students, and assisting before, during or after school activities.
· Helper: an adult who provides help or assistance in an event or function, but who does not meet the definition of a volunteer whereas the helper is not responsible for the welfare, care, supervision, guidance or control of a child or children independently of a teacher or certified paraprofessional. Helpers may undertake activities such as: class part, cafeteria help, material preparation, assisting a teacher in the classroom.
Adults who meet the definition of a volunteer under Applicable Law or under this policy shall be required to complete a registration/disclosure form and provide the following:
a) Act 34 State Police History Report
This clearance is free of charge to volunteers and can be found online at https://epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp
b) Act 151 Child Abuse Clearance Statement
This clearance is free of charge to volunteers and can be found online at https://www.compass.state.pa.us/cwis/public/home.
c) Act 114 FBI Background Check (not required if you have been a PA resident during the entirety of the previous 10 year period) Ø The cost of this clearance is $22.60 https://uenroll.identogo.com/workflows/1KG6XN
d) Tuberculosis Test
Helpers need only to have their photo identification scanned into our Navigate 360 Visitor Management upon entering the school building.
Kind Regards,
Mrs. Stauffer
Message from CASD IT Department
Dear CASD Parents and Guardians,
I hope this letter finds you well. As we continue to embrace technology as an integral part of our educational environment, we want to ensure that your child’s school-issued device is well-protected. To this end, in leu of our previous TIF, we are offering optional insurance coverage for these devices to help mitigate any potential costs associated with accidental damage, loss, or theft, outside of any warranty covered repairs.
Why Device Insurance?
School-issued devices are an important tool for learning, and while we strive to take great care of them, accidents can happen. Device insurance provides peace of mind and financial protection by covering repair or replacement costs due to unforeseen circumstances.
What computer insurance covers
A stand-alone computer insurance policy through Progressive includes coverage for perils (laptop theft, vandalism, fire damage, and more) and unexpected accidents such as:
- Water damage (including liquid spills and submersion)
- Damage from dropping or stepping on your laptop
- Power surges due to lightning
What laptop insurance doesn't cover
Laptop insurance doesn't cover everything. Some exclusions are:
- Computer viruses
- Wear and tear or corrosion
- Software issues
- Blatant neglect
All policies and claims are the sole ownership of the Parents and Guardians.
Complete details and common questions can be found at the following link: https://www.progressive.com/electronic-device-insurance/computer-laptop-insurance/
Lastly, for anyone that has already paid a TIF for the 2024-2025 school year, the district will be issuing those families a full refund.
Sincerely,
CASD Office of Technology

- persistent cough
- unusual skin rash
- abdominal pain
