Kiana McFarlane makes Nationals in Kentucky!
Kiana got a camera for Christmas and 4 months later she has been asked to go to nationals in Kentucky. Here is the flyer about the convention. http://www.sneministrynetwork.org/ Extremely impressive-good luck!
From Kiana:
I went to Southern New England Ministry Network Fine Arts which was at Rhode Island Convention Center in Rhode Island and I entered this picture (above) in the Digital Photography category and I'm going to nationals.
I took this picture in my backyard because I was bored and had nothing to do and this picture was taken with a Canon sx710 camera.

Wednesday, May 11th, 2016
6:30-8:00 p.m.
Monomoy High School Auditorium
From the heroin epidemic to policies concerning the use of marijuana, addiction-related issues are in the news on a daily basis. Harvard Addiction Psychiatrist Dr. Kevin Hill, author of Marijuana: The Unbiased Truth About the World’s Most Popular Weed, will educate us on the science of addiction and offer a window into what treatment for addiction looks like in this 1-hour presentation covering alcohol, opioids, and marijuana.
Kevin P. Hill, M.D., M.H.S., is an addiction psychiatrist in McLean Hospital’s Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Hill’s clinical research is focused primarily on medications and behavioral interventions that might improve available treatments for those wanting to stop smoking marijuana or cigarettes. Dr. Hill earned a Masters in Health Sciences from the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program at Yale and has published on numerous topics in addiction in top journals such as JAMA and Lancet Psychiatry. As a leading marijuana addiction specialist, he has spoken nationally and appeared often on local television on the topics of marijuana policy and treatment, offering a balanced, evidence-based stance on these issues. Dr. Hill’s book, Marijuana: The Unbiased Truth about the World’s Most Popular Weed, was released by Hazelden Publishing on March 31, 2015

2016 was a year of record breaking numbers for college applications nationwide. Despite the intense competition, Monomoy seniors have had an unprecedented year in college admissions! Statistics from U.S. World & News Report-2015. **and we are still receiving acceptances, so this chart will grow!
This is a credit to are extremely hard working senior class, their teachers throughout their careers, strong schools/curriculum, caring adults in their lives and amazing parental/guardian support and upbringing. It takes a village, and that village is Monomoy!

Shark Shout Outs are spreading fast & furious at MRHS. We start every staff meeting with Shout Outs to colleagues and Shout Out to students nominated for student of the month during am announcements. Now, students and Parents are welcome to send in a Shark Shout Out as a token of appreciating other students and staff in the school. Email Mr. Burkhead at bburkhead@monomoy.edu, or drop them off to Ms. Hooper in the main office! The enthusiasm is contagious!
The MRHS kids helping out at MRMS at the Energy Carnival were awesome today! Got tons of compliments from the middle school teachers as to the quality of their work and presence. They worked hard today, and I think we wore them out by the end of the day-now they know how it feels to be a teacher!

I fully agree we have the best administrative assistants - they never complain - are always positive - always available and more importantly - well informed and get the job done! The best!!!

Shark Shout Out to all the custodians for their conscious efforts during the April break. They all stepped up and completed the tasks that were at times trying and the cleanliness of the school looks great.
Thanks to all the Custodians for stepping up and going above and beyond in their duties with assigned projects in the school. This allowed me to stay on schedule with outstanding projects as well!!
So, here’s a BIG SHARK SHOUT OUT!!!

Join the "Tour de Trash" Community Town-Wide Clean Up!
The Town of Harwich Conservation Department in cooperation with the Harwich Conservation Trust will be putting on its 2nd Annual “Tour de Trash” town-wide cleanup event on Saturday, April 30th, from 10am-12pm. I was hoping you could disseminate this information to your teachers and other staff, who could then give it to students. The goal of this event is to remove garbage from our town, but it also serves to provide a sense of pride in the community. Last year we had over 100 volunteers! We hope to double that this year.
The event starts and ends at Monomoy Regional High School in Harwich. Volunteers work in teams to cleanup roadsides. This would also count for volunteer hours if the students have a requirement. Below is the link the the Harwich Conservation Trust website, where people can sign up for the event and pick the route they wish to clean up with friends and family. Oh, and lunch is provided after! If anyone has any questions, please have them contact me. Thank you!
