VPHS AVID SENIOR STANDOUT 2024 - Victoria Chavira
Congratulations to AVID Senior, Victoria Chavira, on being recognized on April 15th at the Irvine Barclays Theater at the Annual OCDE AVID Senior Standout & Scholarships Ceremony. Mrs. Werner, AVID Teacher (12th Grade) had these words to share about Victoria on stage:
"Victoria is exemplary. Committed to both academic and athletic excellence while caring for those around her, she is a model AVID student. Victoria’s time at VPHS has included a wide variety of involvement, from her collection of honors and AP courses, artistic accomplishments in photography to her recognition as a four-year scholar athlete. As she is preparing to enter college as a first generation student, Victoria is planning to pursue a Nursing degree, specifically in Labor and Delivery. Our AVID program is honored to have her and we know nothing will stand in her way."
"All That Villa Park Has to Offer" Mural
At the beginning of the year, PFSO President, Jordan Wu, asked the art department to finish the existing mural outside the counseling office/entrance to the PAC. They wanted to finish what class of 2015 started, but had no plans from the original project. Mr. Edlund and Mrs. Shine tasked students with helping finish the mural. After discussions with the students, they decided to create a new mural altogether. Art teachers Mr. Edlund and Mrs. Shine, along with the students, came up with the theme of "All That Villa Park Has to Offer," designed with many triangular facets and strong circular focal point in the center. After the initial design phase, the students began sketching on the mural boards and slowly the idea came to life. For 5 months the students worked during first or third periods (around their own AP art projects) to get the mural completed. The themes in the mural are academics, sports, Spartan Way, visual arts, drama, CTE, dance, music, mock trial, honors, ASB, yearbook, and color guard.

Spartan Profiles
Joseph Ancich-Instructional Assistant
Written by: Alexander Tran
Joining our Spartan family just this year, Mr. Ancich currently works for Villa Park High School as an Instructional Assistant in Special Education. Previously attending Cal Poly Slo, Mr. Ancich is a current Finance and Economics major at Grand Canyon University who is due to graduate in several weeks. Upon graduating, he is hoping to obtain a teaching credential. Prior to his matriculation, Mr. Ancich attended Whittier High School, where he was active in ASB, tennis, and football. Before joining our Spartan family, Mr. Ancich previously worked at Cerro Villa Middle School and at a local restaurant. When asked about his favorite experiences here at Villa Park, it would have to be winning football games as a coach. One fun fact about Mr. Ancich enjoys reptiles.
Nancy Diaz-Counseling Support Staff
Written by: Alexander Tran
Nancy Diaz is one of our beloved counseling support staff. Mrs. Diaz initially joined our Spartan family in 2020 amidst the coronavirus epidemic as a special education aide. As an aide, she supported special needs students both academically and socially. After graduating from El Modena High School in 2014, where she was involved in her school’s Link Crew, Mrs. Diaz matriculated into Santiago Canyon College and earned her Associates in Sociology. Prior to joining our Spartan family, Mrs. Diaz worked for Serrano Elementary’ s CARE Program, which is an afterschool program for elementary school students. Not to mention, she also worked for Cero Villa and Yorba Middle Schools as a behavioral and instructional aide, a passion she would develop here at Villa Park. As a part of our counseling staff, which constantly encourages our students to apply to colleges, Mrs. Diaz advises Villa Park students to join clubs here on campus as a way to learn more about themselves and their communities. When asked, her favorite memory while working at Villa Park would be assisting her colleague, Chris Vera, in putting together last year’s senior celebration, where she saw how joyful the students and parents were. In her free time, Mrs. Diaz likes to travel, decorate for events, and collect postcards. Here at Villa Park High School, Mrs. Diaz epitomizes the professionalism offered by our staff, earning her the respect of our Spartan communities, faculty, teachers, and students.
