English Village Family Edition
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPALS:
Greetings, EV Families! We hope that your weekend is going well. It really is great to be back in school! While the long break was nice, it was really wonderful to see all of our students' smiling faces and to hear about their time off and celebrations with their families.
They haven't missed a beat. Students and staff returned and got right back into the school rituals and routines. It was like we had never left! This speaks to the work that you all have done/continue to do to provide your children/our students with support and consistency at home as well as your collaboration with your children's teachers.
Thank you for continuing to be our partners in your children's education. We are excited to see all of the growth that they will make and all of the great things that they will accomplish this second half of the year! Please continue to read with and practice Math facts with your child every night. Also, please maintain the close contact with your children's teachers to stay informed on their progress and growth as well as opportunities for improvement. Thank you very much, take care, and have a great week!
Sincerely,
Jason Lewis

School Improvement Plan (SIP) Update:
Our SIT (School Improvement Team) will review data from our Math CFA (Common Formative Assessment) #2 that was administered in December. The CFAs are the way that we are tracking our progress for our Math Academic Goal. The team will utilize a data review protocol that is called the Strengths, Challenges, and Implications protocol. This work will let us know how we are doing in regards to progress towards our goal and will help inform how we move forward with instruction to best make growth. Please stay tuned for further updates. Thank you for reading this and for your support.
Goal #1: At English Village our goal will be to see a 5% growth per trimester with our 2nd grade students on standard NY2.OA.1 through the use of a CFA.

Writing Lab projects focus on Insects and Spiders
Students have been using their witing lab time to read, research, plan and write about different insects and spiders. They chose bugs such as dragonflies, ants, ladybugs and spiders. Students then used a graphic organizer to map out and plan their writing before putting it all together.
"Did you know that an ant has 3 body parts? There are even some ants that have wings!" one of Mrs. Plummer's second graders shared with us about their project.
Students identify different parts of speech
Students read a poem about snowflakes this week. They then used different colors and shapes to identify capital letters, rhyming words, nouns, sight words and adjectives within the poem. This is a great activity for a snowy day that teaches about the different parts of speech.
