Dublin High School Newsletter
Week of October 21, 2024
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to invite you to our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conference Days at Dublin High School! These conferences will be student-led, with your child taking an active role in discussing their academic progress and goals, alongside their teacher serving as a facilitator. This is a valuable opportunity for your child to take ownership of their learning by reflecting on their strengths and areas for improvement as we wrap up the 1st nine weeks of school.
We believe that student-led conferences foster accountability and help students better understand the steps they need to take for continued success. Your involvement is essential in supporting this process, and we are eager to partner with you in ensuring your child reaches their full potential.
We look forward to seeing you next week beginning Monday, October 21st on your designated grade-level day here at Dublin High School. Please refer to the enclosed invitation in this week’s newsletter or on any of the DCS social media platforms for more details, including the specific schedule for each grade.
Thank you for your ongoing support!
Michael Overstreet
Principal

Hispanic Heritage Month
The Spanish Department, Mr. Reddy, Mr. Chourio, and Mrs. Shepherd, was able to spread cultural awareness among the students at Dublin High School in a multitude of ways. In the duration of September 15th to October 15th, both the students and staff read interesting facts about Hispanic Heritage Month over the intercom for all to hear. We even honored our very own Mrs. Marla Newsome, registrar, as a proud Puerto Rican. A select few staff have collaborated with Mrs. O'Neal to learn how to cook authentic Puerto Rican rice and beans, taught by Mrs. Newsome and Venezuelan "tajadas" (plantains) taught by Mr. Chourio while other staff were able to taste and savor. All of the countries were displayed on the walls of the rotunda and students were able to display their work for others to see. Mrs. Holmes jumped on board along with her students with an original salsa dance this year at the Homecoming Pep Rally. Mrs. Stanley and Ms. Woodall created bookmarks and "Day of the Dead" skulls to commemorate this month as well. The goal was to bring cultural awareness to this month and the department is proud to say that we have done it this year at DHS.
Accelerated Career Pathways offer qualified students a unique path to high school graduation. Students choose to simultaneously earn a high school diploma and a college Associate of Applied Science Degree, Technical Diploma, an approved program that leads to licensure, or two (2) approved Technical Certificates of Credit (TCC’s) in a specific career pathway. Accelerated Career students will utilize the “ACE” Grant to cover their pathway of choice, and must be enrolled in a TCSG institution. Students interested in pursuing Accelerated Career pathways should contact their high school counselor or any of the 22 Technical College System of Georgia’s colleges.
