Greetings, Hosmer Families,
Welcome back! I hope that everyone had a nice break and that 2025 will be a year of joy. As we gear up for the first full week back to a normal schedule, I anticipate that it may be a challenge to get everyone back into the typical rhythm. Sleep schedules are very important and we all need rest to function at our best and this is a good thing to prioritize this week.
Assessments this Week and Next
This week, our multilingual students who work with English Second Language teachers will take the four-part state-mandated ACCESS test. This test assesses speaking, listening, reading, and writing. It will be administered Tuesady through Friday, January 7-13. Please make sure students are in school and on time on these important days.
This week and next, all students will also take a variety of mid-year assessments. These help us see student growth and plan intentional teaching and intervention to address areas for needed growth. Two of these assessments, DIBELS and the Math Numeracy Screener, are administered 1:1 with the teacher working directly with the students. iReady math and reading are computer-based. We will administer iReady across the school on January 15th and 16th.
PTO Movie Night
This Thursday evening, the PTO will be hosting a showing of Wall-E in the cafeteria. More informaton can be found below. Those who attend should bring a blanket and pillow for sitting on the floor. Some chairs will be available for grown-ups.
Chorus Resumes this Week
Chorus will resume on January 7th.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our wonderful school and community.
With a grateful heart,

Attendance Matters
Absences for appointments
School attendance and timeliness create a foundation for healthy social, emotional, and academic development.
If you child has an dental or doctor appointment that is not due to illness, please do not keep them home for the full day. They can avoid being marked absent by coming to school before the appointment, being dismissed for the appointment, and then coming back to school after the appointment.
Students who miss 10% of the school year (18 days in total) are classified as “chronically absent” by the state of Massachusetts. The state makes no distinction between excused and unexcused absences.
Note from the PTO
