Note from the Principal
Welcome to March! Thank you parents for your participation in virtual conferences last week. As we continue to move forward as partners in your child’s education this spring, please feel comfortable calling the Memorial Middle School office at 362-2785 to visit with a teacher, a counselor, and/or an administrator if you find that your student is in need of academic or emotional support. It is important to have these conversations in order to assure that students are as successful as possible.
The third quarter ends later this month on March 24th. Winter school activities are wrapping up, and spring events are just around the corner as we hit the midterm mark on March 1st. In addition, registration for the 2021-22 school year has begun. 8th grade students have completed the registration process for high school, 7th grade students received their 8th grade forms last week, and 6th grade students will begin registration for 7th grade this week. Thank you for completing the necessary registration forms for the next school year. Please let us know if you have any questions about the registration process or forms.
I thank you for all that you are doing to keep your children healthy and in school. We know that most students learn best when they are physically present in the classroom. Your continued diligence regarding safety protocols such as hand washing and mask wearing is greatly appreciated. As a result of this commitment by students, staff, and parents, we are able to safely keep our schools open.
Go Mustangs!

Successful Transitions for Next Year
We realized that with the recent boundary changes that we will have students returning to Memorial, and we will have quite a few students attending another Sioux Falls Public Middle School as well. It is important in the midst of transitions to provide a listening ear, empathize with our children, and to focus on the benefits of future opportunities. If there is anything we can do to help provide extra support, please feel free to reach out to us.
The Sioux Falls School District Notified families whose home attendance changed due to the recent boundary changes were notified around Nov. 16th. You can use the following website to enter your address learn more about the school boundaries and your child’s home attendance area: https://boundaries.sf.k12.sd.us/statswq/webquery/

Importance of Family Dinners - Connecting Time
A stack of studies link regular family dinner with lowering a host of high risk teenage behaviors parents fear: smoking, binge drinking, marijuana use, violence, school problems, eating disorders, and sexual activity. In one study of more than 5,000 Minnesota teens, researchers concluded that regular family dinners were associated with lower rates of depression and suicidal thoughts. In a very recent study, kids who had been victims of cyberbullying bounced back more readily if they had regular family dinners.
THANK YOU to the Mustang Club!
