According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor & Statistics, the air transportation industry, which includes transporting both passengers and freight on scheduled and non-scheduled flights, had employment of over 492,000 in May 2022. There were an additional 225,880 jobs in support activities for air transportation, such as air traffic control, airport operations, baggage and cargo handling services, and aircraft maintenance and repair services.
