Counselor's Corner
Here we are near the end of the 2023-2024 school year! During classroom counseling lessons this year, the students have learned how to cope with bullying and friendship problems, how to be a friend, to respect and appreciate differences, how to be safe online and in person, that they can listen to their “uh-oh” voices, and all of the students have even explored careers. It has been a joy to see the students learn and grow. Here are a few websites below to help continue the students’ social-emotional journeys over the summer. I wish everyone a relaxing summer break and I can’t wait to see you next year!
SEL games to play with your child
This site describes five social-emotional learning games to play with your children to help them learn to manage their emotions and work on social skills.
This article from the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry gives ideas to help families manage children’s screen time in a positive and healthy way.

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
May is the start of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage month! In 1990, George H.W. Bush signed a bill passed by Congress to extend Asian-American Heritage Week to a month; May was officially designated as Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month two years later. The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. The majority of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants.
This month, our students will learn about the legacy, sacrifice, and contributions Asians have made to the world.
