This month of may is DETERMINATION: Determination is when a person keeps on trying, even though it is difficult. We all need to show extra determination as the end of the year grows closer and summer fun is on our mind. We are looking for students to show some extra grit, perseverance, and determination as they work to finish the year strong and successful!

We were so happy to see you during the Future Wildcat Orientation and to meet you and your family. 🎶 RMS BEGINNING BAND 🎵
The Beginning Band held their Spring Concert on Thursday May 2nd. The group performed seven songs. They were: Mambo From the Congo, Vive la Paris, Warp Speed, Galactic Episode, Creepy Crawlies, Name Those Tunes, and Eagle Summit March.

CONGRATULATION MRS. GRAF!
Mrs. Graf is an excellent 6th-grade elective teacher and an Artful Learning Coordinator at RMS. She has been at RMS for 28 years and was previously, for many years, a Language Arts and Social Science 8th-grade teacher. Mrs. Graf has always shown respect to others and is passionate about her classes, students, and school. She is doing an excellent job as an Artful Learning Coordinator. Our school has never looked so colorful, especially the main office and hallways. Mrs. Graf is not only doing her job as an Artful Learning Coordinator, she is also enriching the educational experience for her students. Her efforts contribute significantly to creating a vibrant and dynamic learning environment. Her colleagues and staff members love her and respect her tremendously.

Our final Community School Advisory Council meeting has been moved to Tuesday, May 15th and 5:00 pm. We hope to see you there as we continue exploring what RMS needs as a Community School.

RMS is excited to welcome our community to our Artful Learning Student Showcase on May 16, 2024, from 5-7 pm. Join us for an exhibition of student original creations, live performances, and interactive art activities showcasing our Artful Learning School.

RAD ACADEMY 2024
RAD Academy summer school registration is now open. RAD Academy will be from June 10-21 and is free to all students who will be attending Roosevelt in the fall. See the flier for more details and to register.
RAD Academy sign ups are open! RAD Academy is open to any current 5th, 6th, or 7th graders who will be attending Roosevelt next year. During Summer Rad Academy students can take academic bridge classes to help prepare them for next school year and/or enrichment classes in fun subjects such as coding, cooking, folklorico, and more! RAD Academy runs from June 10-June 21, 2024. Sign up on this Google Form, space is limited!
🌞AM-PM COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM - SUMMER 2024🌴
Summer program information:
- Current VUSD students who have completed 5th through 7th grade are eligible to attend the middle school AM-PM Summer program.
- Weekly fee is $175.00 for the first child and $165.00 for siblings.
- Price includes lunch, afternoon snack, field trips, and all materials and activities.
- Financial aid is available for those families that meet the qualification standard, not all families qualify.
Grant eligibility:
- Students experiencing homelessness & students receiving foster youth services.
- Students who qualifiy to receive free & reduced priced meals.
- Students who are learning english as a second language.

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE LIBRARY
All students will be returning their chromebooks and chargers at the end of this school year! Students will be scheduled to return their chromebooks and chargers through their Math/Science classes (6th grade) and Social Science class (7th and 8th grade).
Students will also be returning their home sets of textbooks. Textbook returns will be scheduled through Language Arts classes in all grades.
Both chromebook and textbook returns will be happening the last two weeks of May.
MESSAGE FROM THE RMS HEALTH OFFICE
Your child is required to have the Tdap booster vaccine for 7th-grade entry. Many children have already received the Tdap booster as part of their routine well-child visits through their pediatrician. Please take a look at your child's immunization record to see if this has been done already. If it has, please send me their updated immunization records and I can get you crossed off my list. If not, it will need to be completed by 7th grade registration in August.

The Folklorico has new merchandise available for purchase! Our biggest size is 4xl but only in red and gray shirts and sweatshirts. The red, black and gray shirts are $20. The black V-necks are $30. And the sweatshirt is $40 :) All can be purchased online or in room G2 with Mrs. Guzman. Also, stickers are available for purchase for $2 and the large for $4. You may purchase online on the RMS website or in cash.

IMPORTANT STUDENT POLICY MANUAL REGARDING DELIVERING FOOD AT SCHOOL
DO NOT BRING FOOD FROM OUTSIDE TO SCHOOL
Due to California law related to healthy school initiatives and to minimize distractions in the academic environment, outside food will not be permitted on campus, with the exception of individual student school lunches. This includes large bags of chips, energy drinks, drinks/food purchased from third-party vendors (e.g., Starbucks, Doordash, Uber Eats, etc.), and candy.
Remember: "Food prepared outside is not only dangerous for our students with allergic reactions, but a general distraction for all students."

Free Mental Health Webinar Series for Parents and Caregivers in 2024
This webinar series will provide information on the most common mental health challenges faced by youth today and will provide tips and tools to parents and caregivers to help them support the youth itheir lives. It is offered through a partnership with the San Diego County Office of Education and medical and mental health experts with the Transforming Mental Health Initiative at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego. Rady Children’s is on the forefront of youth mental health and wellness and is dedicated to improving the mental health of all children. Spanish interpretation will be provided.
Please note that live webinars will be limited to the first 500 people and will have simultaneous Spanish translation. The recordings and slides will be in English only.

B.L.A.S.T. AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING AT RMS
No parent registration is required to attend. Students must report to room H-12 on Mondays or Wednesdays and write their names in a signing sheet for attendance control. Students can attend both days for tutoring or just one for your convenience or according to their needs.
