WT Page Principal's Message
Dear Page Families,
Here is some important information that I would like to share with you this week. Reminder this week is Spirit Week for Red Ribbon and Mental Health Weeks. See the calendar below. Monday is wear something Comfy and Cozy.
1. Digital Citizenship Week was October 14 - 18 and William Tyler Page Elementary School is a recognized Common Sense School. We use digital citizenship lessons from Common Sense Education in Media to help our students learn the habits and skills they need to use technology safely and responsibly in school, at home, and beyond.
WHAT IS DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP?
Kids today may seem like experts at using technology, but the digital world requires all kinds of skills and habits that kids don’t just pick up as they go. Digital citizenship helps them learn those skills. The Common Sense lessons help kids in grades K–2 develop healthy media habits and learn how to be safe online. Lessons for kids in grades 3–5 continue to focus on screen time and online safety. Older kids also learn about how to recognize cyberbullying, what is and isn’t OK to share online, and how to find credible news and information.
WHAT FAMILIES CAN DO
Common Sense Education provides resources to help you support your kid’s learning. As we teach these lessons in class, we’ll be sending home tip sheets, videos, and activities for you to do with your kids. You can visit the Common Sense website at www.commonsensemedia.org
for more.
2. National School Bus Safety Week, will occur October 21-25, 2024. It is a public program designed to educate the public about the importance of school bus safety. Each year schools organize events to bring attention to school bus safety and to recognize the critical role school bus employees play in providing safe transportation to our students. This year's theme is "Driving Safely into the Future."
3. Mental Health and Red Ribbon Week is this week October 21 - 25, 2024 and we’re coming together to focus on two important causes: Mental Health Awareness and Red Ribbon Week. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and taking care of our minds can help us lead more balanced, fulfilling lives. Throughout the week, we'll be sharing resources, tips, and stories to help break the stigma surrounding mental health challenges and promote emotional well-being.
Additionally, Red Ribbon Week highlights the importance of living drug-free. This campaign encourages individuals to make healthy choices and empowers communities to work together in fostering a safer, drug-free environment. To celebrate both initiatives, we will be hosting a **Spirit Week**! Join us in showing your support through themed dress-up days and activities that will help spread awareness.
4. Shout-Out from the PTA: Penguin Fun Run - A big thank you to our Boosterthon committee chair, thank you Mr. Unger and Ms. Fox for helping make it a successful event, helpers before and during the event, and all the volunteers that stayed to clean up after the run. We appreciate you and cannot do it without you.
5. Hispanic Heritage Month Ends - All classrooms participated in learning about Spanish Speaking countries, which included learning about the country, animals, artists, songs, dances, food, and more. Take a look below at the collection of dances, songs and door decorations.
See you bright and early Monday Morning.
