The News
This year every school in Franklin County took a benchmark test in English at the beginning of the year. We are proud to have to have six of the 12 highest scorers in male and female categories at the middle school/high school level: 7th grade (M) Jayden Weeks, 8th grade (M) Mason Holyfield and (F) Jaci Valdez; 9th grade (M) Gavin Kline; 10th grade (M) Isaac Duboise; 12th grade (F) Zoey Saint (not pictured).
We had a lot of great things going on in our classrooms this week. Some of those are featured in the pictures below.
Volleyball:
Our varsity volleyball team picked up two big area wins this week on the road over Colbert County 3-0 (25-16; 25-21; 25-10) and Colbert Heights 3-2 (26-24; 23-25; 24-26; 25-20; 17-15). They will play Sheffield on the road on Monday and host Colbert Heights on Thursday. Students will get in free!
Cheer: Maggie Fowler was named our new junior high cheerleader coach this week. Fowler is a graduate of Phil Campbell High School where she was also a cheerleader for six years. She was recently hired at Phil Campbell Elementary School. Miss Fowler bring cheer experience,
Football: We experienced one of the rainiest, wettest football games I can remember on Friday night. The remnants of a small hurricane brought several inches of rain in the later part of the week, much of which fell in Oakman between seven and nine o'clock. We didn't win the game but we did bring a great crowd on a road game about an hour away in very bad conditions. That says a lot about the Bobcat spirit and pride. Also, a grilling ministry at Oakman fed our cheerleaders at halftime and prayed over them. Super nice people! We were greeted with great hospitality all the way around by the people of Oakman.
Player of the Week: Congratulations to Hayston Scott on being named Player of the Week by a local newspaper and radio station for his performance in the 4-OT Vinemont game last week. Scott ran the ball 21 times for 150 yards. He completed two touchdown passes, a game-tying TD to Hagen Raper with a minute left in the game and the first overtime touchdown pass to Jayden Taylor. Scott then ran for the final three touchdowns in overtime.
Have A Great Week,
Bart Moss
Principal
Thought For The Week
Every morning, at the end of announcements, we read a Thought for the Week. This was our Thought for the Week last week from Babe Ruth:
Yesterday’s home runs, don’t win today’s games. Meaning, whatever success you had yesterday, last week, last month or last year doesn’t mean it will happen again unless you work for it and earn it.
