Library Mural Project
Connor Grabowski's Art Transforms School Library
Connor met with Mrs. Dyar to discuss the project, and they spent several months planning. Using a tablet and digital software he won in an art contest, Grabowski designed several preliminary sketches which he then tailored to capture the spirit of the RSHS library learning commons. The North East Sherwin Williams store generously provided all paint and materials for the project, and store manager Zach Sears personally delivered everything to the school. There was even enough paint left over to share with the Drama Department; under the direction of Jennifer Jones, Connor designed and led painting for the set of the spring musical Seussical with the same cheerful palette. Connor sketched the library murals and painted them with assistance from Michael Morrow and Kate Callaghan over a period of three months. Mr. Finley, Maddie Finley's father, donated the sealcoat to preserve the finished murals. The murals breathe new life into the library space and celebrate the joy of reading and creating. The next time you are at Rising Sun High School, stop by the library to check out the art!

Thinking of Making Your Own Mural?
Here's some friendly advice.
You don’t need expensive software; just paper and pencils will work. If you are interested in using a digital medium, ibisPaint is a great free app. Start by choosing a color palette, then sketch your design. Use a projector or grid to transfer the design to a larger scale (wall). Work in pencil until your design is finalized. Using a marker to define your final sketch may be helpful. Start painting, working from the largest area to smaller details. Give the paint time to dry between applications. Don’t be afraid to mess up because any mistakes can be covered up and redone. Use paint that is the original wall color to clean up the edges and cover any mistakes or sketch lines. Enjoy!
