MSD of Martinsville's Vision Statement
A message from Dr. Vlcan
This year, the schools in the MSD of Martinsville are piloting the Indiana Department of Education's ILEARN Checkpoints. Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, the checkpoints will be required so we thought, "Let's get a sneak peek of what's to come so we will be well prepared!" As a result, our 3rd & 4th grade students will be completing three ILEARN checkpoints before they take their big ILEARN test in April/May. Each checkpoint will cover a small number of standards with the thoughts of using this data to identify areas of strength and areas in need of growth for each of our students so we can provide interventions to students in order to fully prepare them to take the test in April/May. Below you will find the checkpoint dates for each grade level as well as the dates for the actual ILEARN test at the end of the year. Should you have any questions at all, please feel free to reach out to me!
Checkpoint #1
4th Grade - October 7th - 11th
3rd Grade - November 4th - 8th
Checkpoint #2
4th Grade - January 13th - 17th
3rd Grade - January 27th - 31st
Checkpoint #3
3rd Grade - March 31st - April 11th
4th Grade - April 7th - 11th
ILEARN TEST (3rd & 4th Grade)
April 14th - May 9th
Picture Day!
In an effort to raise funds for our school, on Friday, October 11th, we are going to have a walk-a-thon. This is a great way to not only raise money for our school but also get outside and get some exercise. It also allows teachers and students the opportunity to have fun together while doing something to benefit our school. Our goal is to raise money to purchase items for our students and our school.
Last week, we sent home information about collecting addresses from friends and family members. Students should return these address forms by Friday, September 6th. Once the sheets are turned in, you are done! It is that SIMPLE! Thank you so much for your efforts!
SAVE THE DATE:
Students will have an eLearning day on Wednesday, October 9th due to Parent/Teacher Conferences which will be held during the day and evening on Oct. 9th and the evening only on Oct. 10th. More information on how to sign up for conferences will be sent out soon.
Background Checks
*Please note: We are no longer allowing visitors during lunch. Thank you for your understanding.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday)
- Doors open at 8:25AM (we do not have staff members available to supervise students before 8:25) Please DO NOT drop them off at the door prior to 8:25.
- Door 2 (by the cemetery) & Door 8 (by the car wash) are both options for drop off. It is your preference on which door you would like to drop your child off at. Please pull up along the sidewalk before letting your child out of the car. DO NOT allow your child to cross in front of cars. If your child is in preschool, kindergarten, or first grade, we would prefer that you drop off and pick up at Door #2.
Dismissal:
- Walkers will be dismissed out Door 2 & Door 8 first at 3:30PM.
- Next, the students riding buses and daycare vans will dismiss out of Door 2 at 3:35PM.
- Finally, car riders will be dismissed. If you are picking up your child, grades PK-1 (and older siblings) will be picked up at Door 2. Students in grades 2-4 will be picked up at Door 8. Please stay in your car as we will bring your child out to you.
WELL Wednesdays - Arrival Time & Dismissal
*You will follow the same dismissal procedures as listed above.

Our Free & Reduced Application will be called Curricular Materials & Meal Assistance Application. For the 2024-2025 school year, breakfast will be free. However, this application is still needed for families to receive a possible discount on lunch and curricular fees. It is used by multiple agencies to award additional funding to the district and students.
Parent Square
ParentSquare is the MSD of Martinsville’s tool to communicate with Artesian families.
Families may register for an account and set their preferences for how they’d like to receive messages from us. For example, many parents only want to receive a text, while others prefer email, and others choose both. If you download the app (it’s free!), you can also get notifications via the app.
Another feature of the app is that it allows users to select their preferred language.
In emergencies or when notifying school families is urgent, ParentSquare will use all methods of contact, including a phone call, text, email, and app notification (if we have the correct information and if you’ve downloaded the app).
If you do not register with ParentSquare, you will still receive an email when we use ParentSquare to send a message.
If you do not have an email from the MSD of Martinsville inviting you to create a ParentSquare account, please notify your community.relations@msdmartinsville.org and we will send you the invitation. While you do not need to create an account to receive messages from us, you will have greater flexibility to tailor the ways you receive messages from us if you have an account.
Once you have created an account, there are additional resources available to help you tailor your account to meet your own preferences.
