Weekly Update
January 17, 2025
From the Principal
Dear Aquin Families,
What a cold week! Next week, sadly looks like it may be more of the same. Please remember that we try to go outside every day, but only if the "feel like" temperature is above 10 degrees. This means that our kiddos need to be prepared with hats and gloves. For the classrooms, the temperature around the building varies so the best option is layers! A sweater or sweatshirt is a very good item to have as part of their daily wardrobe. They can also keep one here at school if you want.
We started our ARK academic testing this week. This is a brand-new test for the Diocese of Rockford, and we are early adopters. This means we are also helping the company build the testing experience for the future. With that being the case, they have not yet developed a concise way to share the testing results with parents. Hopefully this feature will be worked out in time for next school year.
Our ARK results look very good so far. Most of our students have shown significant growth from the fall testing to now. Not all the classes are finished yet, but a little bragging for our 2nd graders is warranted. They have scored in the 99th percentile in Math as a class! They ROCK in math! (They also do very well in Reading.) I also learned this week that the second graders have started learning some multiplication facts and they are so enthusiastic that some of the 1st graders have joined them in doing flash cards! Way to go Mrs. Carlson's class!
During Catholic Schools Week we will be doing a new student Open House. If you are interested in helping give tours during Open House, we would appreciate the help. We will give you all the information needed. Please contact Peyton Glawe if interested at peyton.glawe@aquinschools.org. We would also appreciate you inviting a friend or family that does not go to Aquin but may be interested. Your recommendations are our greatest compliment.
I apologize that I did not get to the registration newsletter this week. We will be sending it out shortly. We WILL be open next school year, and we will send out the registration information soon.
I also hope to have a 2025-2026 calendar for you soon.
Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Heitkamp
-Catholic Schools Week
Below is the schedule for Catholic Schools Week. You will notice a few new items this year.
We will be doing a "special person" lunch on Thursday. This can be any person that is special to your child/family including mom, dad, aunt/uncle, grandparent, family friend, etc. We are inviting them to bring a special lunch to share with your child(ren). In the past I have seen everything from McDonalds to pizza to homemade meals; whatever is special to you. We will also have a talent show after recess for any families or special people that would like to attend.
