Thanks to the Cedar Shoals family for your donation of over 200 can goods that were donated to the Emergency Foodbank of Athens this morning.

The second Athens Area High School Battle of the Bands will be held on Saturday, January 19 at the 40 Watt Club. Doors open at 5:00 p.m., music begins at 5:30 p.m. Pre-sale tickets for $10 will be available from journalism students in January and at the door. Proceeds will support prize money for winning bands and the Cedar Shoals High School journalism publications.

Cedar Theatre is holding auditions for the annual musical.

This year's musical is The Wiz!

Auditions will be held right after we return in January (exact dates TBD)

The Wiz will be performed April 4-7

¡Sígueme! is a day put on by the Students for Latin Empowerment at UGA in which Hispanic Georgia high school students (open to ALL grades) are invited to shadow a student at the University of Georgia and experience the daily life of a college student. They will receive a tour of campus and the opportunity to eat at one of our award winning dining halls. Students also receive advice on admissions, financial aid, and scholarship tips. UGA VetCamp is accepting applicants to their CAMP 2019, which is scheduled for June 16-22, 2019. This program is offered to rising high school juniors and seniors and rising college freshmen to evaluate their skills and competitiveness as future veterinarians, provide mentorship, and help them experience veterinary medicine as an exciting career path. It’s a great experience and the students have a lot of fun while also learning about the profession.

The application for VetCAMP 2019 is available now on their website (http://vet.uga.edu/academic/vetcamp). The deadline for all application materials is January 25, 2019.

The cost of attending the program is $900 and covers lodging, meals, instruction and social activities. Financial assistance is available to students with demonstrated need. For more information regarding scholarship opportunities, please inform your students to contact vetcamp@uga.edu. They may also reach out to that email address with any general questions that they have regarding the program.

The Help a Child Smile Mobile Dental van will be at Cedar Shoals High School on January 9, 2019. If you have not yet filled out the form, please complete the attached form and turn it in to Nurse Eve.

As we enter cold and flu season, it is important to know when to keep your child home from school. Please follow these recommended guidelines if your child is not feeling well.

Please keep your child home if he/she has:

• Vomiting

• Diarrhea

• Pain severe enough to keep him/her from participating in class - Earache, stomach ache, sore throat, headache

• An unknown rash

• Fever of 100 degrees or above. Student must be completely fever-free (98.6 degrees) for 24 hours before returning to school. Please do not give your child medication for the fever and send them to school in the same 24-hour period if they have had a temperature of 100 degrees or above

Take this opportunity to reinforce the importance of hand washing and the covering of coughs and sneezes to prevent the spread of infection.

Please make sure the school has your up-to-date contact/emergency phone numbers so that you can be contacted should your student become ill during the school day.
