Looking for Participants
You are invited to participate in the 12th annual Multicultural Fair- Around The World in White Rock on Monday, May 5 from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm at PiƱon Elementary School.
Please consider creating a cultural display for our fair. Your display can be interactive with food, crafts, games, trivia, etc., as well as artifacts, and a photographic display of your country/culture. PEEC Field Trip
Aspen Elementary first graders took a field trip to PEEC.
PiƱon Rocket Launch
The PiƱon Elementary School Rocket Club hosted its rocket launch last week.
Career Fair
Los Alamos High School hosted. a Career Fair for students last Friday.
Odyssey of the Mind
Odyssey of the Mind team competed at the Colorado state tournament this past weekend, and did amazing!
Here are the results:
- Team 1 (Jocelyne Dolejsi, Audrey Thornton, Cate Dallman, Mei Downing Olsen, Kenzie Bain, Emi Wilson, and Tehya Thornton) placed 1st in their division.
- Team 2 (Amalia Valdez, Keiland Kolar, Noah Walker, Brent Benkoski, Idris Ortega, Lydia Condrey, and Anthony Thornton) placed 2nd in their division.
- Team 3 (Alea Kretz, Drew Bacrania, Amelia Dolejsi, Rafa Rocha, Maverick Hoffer, and Althea Benkoski) placed 1st in their division.
Teams 1 and 2 competed in middle school divisions so their 1st and 2nd place finishes are even more impressive. Team 3 competed in the high school division.
State Choir
Congratulations to members of the Los Alamos High School Schola Cantourm on earning 3rd Place in the 4A NMAA State Choir Competition this past weekend.
The Los Alamos Middle School Choir also performed at State.
NJROTC State Champions
The Los Alamos High School NJROTC won the 2025 4A JROTC New Mexico State Championship Title.They were also state champions in 2024.
In addition, they were also named state champions for Color Guard, Drill and Fitness. Congratulations!
Topper Bands MPA Results
Congratulations to the Topper Bands on their performance at the Regional Music Performance Assessment.
Symphonic Band (Junior Varsity) scored a 92 (Superior) on stage and a 91 (Superior) in sight reading.
Wind Symphony (Varsity) scored a 96 (Superior) on stage and a 91 (Superior) in sight reading.
On Friday April 11th Wind Symphony will compete at the NMAA State Concert Band Competition at Cleveland High School. Wish them good luck on their performance!
Chess Champions
Congratulations to the Los Alamos High School Chess Team on taking top honors in the high school category in the Northern Schools Chess League.
Golfer Luke Ainsworth
Congratulations to PiƱon Elementary School 3rd grader Luke Ainsworth who tied for 7th in the 7-9 age group at the Drive Chip & Putt National Championship held last Sunday, at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.
Registration
Just a quick reminder that students planning to attend LAPS during the 2025-2026 school year should complete the registration process. This includes new and returning students, kindergarten and preschool. Go to www.laschools.net/registration for more information and to register using either a computer or smartphone.
The Returning student registration form is available through the parent PowerSchool portal at https://laps.powerschool.com/public
Almost 66% of eligible returning students have completed registration for the 2025-2026 school year. It would be greatly appreciated if we could reach 100% (3,395) by April 15.
All students planning to attend any LAPS site must complete the registration process. Students in grades 6th-11th who completed course selection are also required to complete the returning student registration form, as this is in addition to course selection. Please make sure to select the 2025-2026 school year when registering.

Summer Programs
Summer Reading Program
Los Alamos Public Schools is excited to participate in this yearās Literacy NM Summer Program. This program will provide small group specialized reading and writing instruction for students who have completed grades K-8. This program will take the place of the traditional summer school or camp that the district has provided in recent years.
All LAPS students who would like to improve their reading and writing skills are invited to enroll on the state portal- NM Summer Reading Program Website (www.literacy.nm.gov). Currently, families can express interest on the website, the official student registration will go live in March. LAPS will not be conducting a separate registration for the summer program.
Student hours will be 8:30-12:30 pm daily, June 5-July 3.
There will be no sessions on Thursday, June 19 in observance of the Juneteenth holiday.
The curriculum for the Literacy NM Summer program is Magnetic Reading.
The district will provide a bus to and from White Rock. This bus will pick up and drop off at Chamisa Elementary.
The YMCA offers an after camp program, which will also be housed at Barranca Mesa Elementary. After the morning session, students participating in the literacy program will be escorted to the YMCA camp. More information about the YMCA program can be found here https://laymca.org/summer.
LAHS Summer Programs
Los Alamos High School will be offering Summer PE, Summer Driver's Ed and Summer Credit Recovery. Registration opens May 1.

MLSS & SAT Info Night
Los Alamos Public Schools invites parents and caregivers of students of all ages to join us for a MLSS & SAT Information Night on Wednesday, April 16 from 5 pm - 6:30 pm in the Los Alamos High School Speech Theater.
LAPS Student Services staff will review:
What MLSS is and how it supports all students
How the SAT process works and when itās used
How data and interventions guide student support

Double Up Food Bucks Program
The Los Alamos Co-op Market is now part of the Double Up Food Bucks program. Families that use SNAP food assistance are able to shop at the co-op and get 50% off all New Mexico grown produce. The Los Alamos Co-op Market is open 7 days a week, from 7 am - 7 pm, making fresh New Mexico grown produce more accessible to folks who have a strict work schedule.
This assistance program is also available at the Farmer's Market on Thursday mornings.

Saturday School
Saturday School is open to all Los Alamos Middle School and Los Alamos High School students as an opportunity to catch up on late work, complete missed assignments, take make-up tests and receive help with homework.Click here for more information.

Fast Track to Success Summer Bridge Program
Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) will be hosting its āFast Track to Successā Summer Bridge Program from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday ā Thursday, June 2 ā July 24, 2025.
Those interested in gaining math, writing and critical thinking skills can build the knowledge and confidence they need for academic success. This program creates a āFast Trackā through developmental courses and bridges opportunities to college credit courses.
Summer Bridge is open to high school sophomores, juniors, seniors, high school equivalency recipients and prospective adult students. Tuition, books, course supplies and tutoring are provided free of charge.

Bee City Newsletter Name and Art Contest
Students in preK through 12th grade are invited to name the Bee City Los Alamos Newsletter and design a piece of Bee City Los Alamos Artwork that will be displayed digitally and distributed as stickers at Bee City Los Alamos events.
