Please make sure your student is coming to school with weather appropriate outerwear for recess and remind them that it needs to be worn. We have had several students attempt to go outside the last few days with short sleeves on!
We have hats, gloves, scarves and coats if you are in need.
Miles of Smiles
Sign Up Today!
Children eligible for an exam, prophylaxis (cleaning), fluoride varnish, and sealants (if needed) are those who provide a positive, fully completed permission slip.
Children in grades K, 2, and 6 who provide a positive permission slip that is NOT fully completed will still receive an exam to stay compliant with the State of Illinois mandate.
Miles of Smiles, Ltd. does encourage families to establish a dental home.
Save the Date!
We tried in October and missed it by a handful. We tried again in November and didn't make it. I believe the third time is the charm. I know that the Steele Stars can do it!!
If we need to dismiss early due to weather.....
District #205 will make every effort not to dismiss early once school is in session. However, since we live in Illinois and the weather is subject to radical and unpredictable changes, an emergency weather condition could require dismissal. Should this happen, the following procedure will be in effect:
- In the event of an emergency early dismissal, we will attempt to notify radio stations at least one hour before the early dismissal. (The same stations will be used as those for school cancellation.) Parents will also be notified by use of our District social media: Facebook, X & Skylert. Please make sure we have your current phone numbers at all times.
- It will be at the discretion of the individual principals to decide whether those students who normally walk home will be allowed to do so.

How do we grade at the elementary level? We use a standards-based report card instead of a report card with letter grades. Elementary report cards are issued at the end of each grading period. They are intended to give an evaluation of the scholastic achievement and work habits of each child. Parents should examine all cards carefully since each child is rated not only on academic progress, but also progress in development of social attitudes and work habits.
We use a 4,3,2,1 system to assess a student's mastery of standards.
4 = Exceeding State and District Standards
3 = Meeting State and District Standards
2 = Approaching State and District Standards
1 = Not Meeting State and District Standards
